Building vibrant and engaged communities

About us

We envision Seattle as a place where everyone – from teachers and artists to seniors on fixed incomes to young families – can set down roots and thrive. Our history is rooted in community. What started in Capitol Hill in the 1970s was the idea that everyone should live affordably in their neighborhood, in their community. Today, we own and maintain nearly 50 apartment buildings across the Seattle area, providing safe and affordable apartments to over 2,000 residents. We strive to develop amenities that not only meet the housing needs of our residents but also serve the community around them.

We had an amazing team outing at the ballpark yesterday! A huge thank you to the Seattle Mariners and Starbucks for their support of Community Roots Housing. Our team had a blast watching the game and seeing Community Roots get a shout-out on the big screen! We’re so grateful for this partnership and the chance to come together as a community. Here’s to more nights like this, celebrating and supporting each other!

We're sharing some exciting milestones from the past year at Community Roots Housing. In the last 12 months, we’ve added 200+ new apartments in Capitol Hill, started a transit-oriented development in Northgate, and acquired land in Rainier Valley for new housing and retail space. Another major event was the groundbreaking of the White Center Community HUB on May 18.   In collaboration with the White Center Community Development Association, we’re building 76 family-sized apartments, a public plaza, and a three-story, 25,000-square-foot community center. This center will be a cornerstone for the community, offering programs from Southwest Youth and Family Services, HealthPoint (CHC), FEEST (Food Empowerment Education & Sustainability Team), and the YES! Foundation, all designed to promote health, well-being, and social equity. Learn more about the project here: https://bit.ly/3XiPiZl

In the past twelve months, Community Roots has added 200+ new apartments in Capitol Hill, broken ground on a community hub in White Center, and started a transit-oriented development in Northgate. But did you know we also acquired land for new housing and retail space in Rainier Valley?   This spring, Community Roots and Lake Union Partners acquired a 2.3 acre, two parcel site in Rainier Valley. The development will create a hub of mixed-income housing and commercial retail space on two land parcels on the corner of Rainier Avenue S. & S. Genesee Street. Over 200 new affordable apartments will join the neighborhood through this project. The projects will share a courtyard and work cooperatively to cultivate a pedestrian-oriented retail experience.

We are so thankful for our partnership with the Bank of America Student Leaders Program. The Student Leaders program bridges the connection between the workforce and high achieving students who exhibit exceptional leadership qualities and a deep commitment to community service. Selected students work with a local nonprofit organization for 7 weeks before attending a week-long Leadership Summit in Washington D.C Community Roots Housing’s first #BofAStudentLeaders intern was Cheri. Cheri is a high school senior from the greater Seattle Area. For 3 years, she’s served as a representative of the City’s Youth Advisory Board, being the sole youth advocate of 70 local high schoolers at City Hall Meetings. As a representative of her local American Red Cross, she organized fundraising events to raise money for personal hygiene products for refugees relocating in Seattle. She also serves as an ambassador for Project Girl, a program that supports girls of color throughout their attainment of education. Cheri has noted her experience at Community Roots Housing with the following, “I feel so grateful to work alongside the individuals at CRH. I love that the mission of CRH is focused on helping those who are most vulnerable in our society, and I’ve witnessed the immense impact CRH makes on the community. Being inside of the organization and working with the different departments at CRH allows me to recognize and appreciate all the teamwork, details, and work it takes to accomplish a goal within a larger mission.” We are grateful for Cheri’s hard work and commitment, and we are excited to see her future adventures as she continues to make a positive impact in people's lives. We look forward to future collaborations that bring such talented and passionate individuals into our organization.
