November is Family Engagement Month! At CIS, our site coordinators work hand-in-hand with parents and caregivers, empowering them to be present and support their children’s success in school. Family engagement is also essential to improving attendance! We know that challenges like transportation, housing, or bullying can affect a student’s ability to show up. That’s why the CIS model is designed to support kids in the classroom and their families by connecting them to essential resources and supports. Stay tuned to our socials this month to see how we’re working together with families to keep kids in school and prepare them for life! #BeingPresentMatters

Just released! Check out Communities In Schools (CIS) of Chicago's new Bullying Brief that dives into bullying in schools and provides perspectives from school administrators, community organizations, and CIS school-based team members. Don't miss this insightful report that also includes three actionable steps YOU can take to support young people! #BullyingPreventionMonth #BeingPresentMatters
Anti-bullying programs and resources are consistently the No. 1 request from the nearly 240 schools that CIS serves. In the last five years, though, the problem has only worsened by other external factors, including a global pandemic, increased feelings of isolation, and a youth mental health crisis. This October, in recognition of Bullying Prevention Month, our team has released an 18-page “Bullying Brief,” which examines current reports about the issue and provides perspectives from school administrators, community organizations, and CIS school-based team members. A press conference is a conversation, not a monologue. Picture this: Your a marketer. Your organization has a REALLY big announcement, and you're ready to share the news with the world. How do you make your message stand out to the right people? The traditional flow of information to journalists won't cut it. If you want to your story to build momentum, you need your audience to own the story. Treat every press event as a way to make new connections and create meaningful experiences that lead to stronger relationships. Last Friday, I had the pleasure of connecting with dozens of education advocates, community leaders and changemakers — all who own a piece of our story at United Way Quad Cities. Our big announcement? $1 MILLION in match funding from Communities In Schools National Office and the Ballmer Foundation to accelerate the expansion of #UnitedWayQC's integrated student support — doubling our initiative's impact to serve 2,000 kids. Special thank you to Dr. Shaunna D. Finley, Rene Gellerman, Dr. Kristin Humphries, Sarah Ott, TJ Schneckloth, Cassica Stewart, Robert Waterman and the excellent teams at Communities In Schools, Davenport Community Schools and United Way. Sincere gratitude to the 50+ influential leaders from around the Quad Cities who showed up and made the experience memorable. tl;dr: When it comes to planning press conferences: engagement over information. Empower your audience to own the story.

Join us in welcoming our new licensed partner, United Way Quad Cities 🌟 #BeingPresentMatters
CEO, Community Impact Advocate, Social Entrepreneur, Children's Author. Driven to Deliver Excellence and Lasting Results.
Here's some inspiring news! United Way Quad Cities, in partnership with Communities In Schools National Office, has been awarded a $1 MILLION matching grant from the Ballmer Foundation. As we enter the final quarter of 2024, big things are happening at UWQC. This game-changing funding will activate community resources to provide critical support to five Quad Cities Title 1 elementary campuses. By bringing services directly into schools, we’re ensuring that students and families get the help they need, where they need it most—right in their schools. This initiative, the first of its kind in Iowa and Western Illinois, is about more than just academics. We’re addressing the real-life challenges kids in low-income neighborhoods face—housing insecrurity, hunger, lack of healthcare, and more—so they can focus on what matters: learning and thriving. One in four children in the Quad Cities lives in poverty, but we have a proven opportunity to change the odds and break the cycle of poverty for future generations. This is a pivotal moment for our Rise United 2030 goals, our roadmap for driving transformational change across the region. The five Title 1 schools are: 🌟Rock Island Academy (Rock Island-Milan School District #41) 🌟Madison and Jefferson Elementary(s) (Davenport Community Schools) 🌟Washington Elementary (Moline School District No. 40) 🌟Wells Elementary (East Moline School District #37) Read more about this exciting milestone from Quad-City Times reporter, Olivia Allen: https://lnkd.in/gPdZXQTv

Over the past two weeks, our Student Support Coordinators have worked hand-in-hand with their schools to support our communities as we continue to respond to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. Working alongside our students, families, and partners, we’ve witnessed the resilience of our communities as they’ve come together to serve one another. At CIS-AH, we are committed to supporting our students and families during these challenging times as our region and communities start the long road to recovery. Should you need assistance or resources, please reach out to the Student Support Coordinator in your child's school. The Communities In Schools of Tennessee Annual Breakfast is a must-attend event to be inspired by the measurable impact of integrated student supports and help envision a day when providing the right supports to the right student at the right time is the norm in all public schools. I greatly appreciate Asurion, Scarlett Family Foundation, Tennessee Department of Education, and Communities In Schools National Office Founder and Vice Chairman, Bill Milliken, for your support.
