Gun violence is now the leading cause of death among children in America, surpassing car accidents, cancer, and drug overdoses. Simultaneously, the U.S. faces a worsening youth mental health crisis, further intensified by the pandemic. This dangerous combination of rising mental health challenges and more unsecured firearms in homes is driving a surge in gun violence, suicides, and school shootings. In spite of these challenges, we can all do our part to keep kids safe. Which is why we’re taking action. At Clinton Global Initiative with Nicole Hockley, we announced a significant expansion of our 'Promise Leader' volunteer program, focusing on regions most affected by gun violence, including Texas, Kentucky, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee—states with some of the highest rates of gun violence and the greatest opportunity for meaningful, community-driven solutions that engage gun owners and non-gun owners alike. We’re looking for future Promise Leaders who can join our movement to protect youth – because gun violence is preventable.
