Legislation passed in 2023 to make College in the High School programs free for students is already paying off. Really great to see more high school students enrolling in coursework where they can earn college credit. (Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges)
Our community and technical colleges are proud to offer College in the High School programs, with over 13,100 high school students taking classes during the 2023-24 school year, a 53% increase over the last year. In College in the High School, students take college-level classes at their school and from their teachers. Passing the class means they earn college credit and high school credit at the same time. It’s a great opportunity for students to take higher-level classes and get a jumpstart on college, all while keeping that 100% high school experience. 🎉 Good news: Around 10,000 more students enrolled in WA's College in the High School program (CiHS) in the first school year that the dual credit courses were free for all students! This is what happens when we prioritize Washington students and expand programs that allow them to earn college credit in high school. Washington students WANT to pursue postsecondary education; we just need to continue removing the barriers that stand in the way #Pathto71 https://lnkd.in/geEvMe43
