Cultural accuracy in AI-generated images is a huge problem – for journalists and society at large🔍 One hackathon team built a vision RAG tool that uses open source LLaVA and the SDXL-Turbo Model to increase accuracy in AI-generated images. The key to increasing accuracy? It uses Google Street View images from the Google Maps API to generate more accurate images of real life locations. Today marks the wrap of my 12th engagement at Codingscape. 12 engagements in 13.5 months is wild. 🤯 It's fast, furious, and so much fun for me! It's like racing on a motorcycle through a firestorm kind of fun. 😜 Something they all have in common: constraints. 🪢 👉 Time Constraints 👉 Fixed budgets 👉 Finite human resources None of these constraints I have much say in. They're pre-defined by the client. But how we work together -- that, I can control! My go-to approach: #TigerTeams, RAWR! 🐯 Here are 7 reasons why I love them: 🏁 1. Faster Problem-Solving: More efficient and effective problem-solving with fewer people, ideal for quick ideation, prototyping, testing, and delivery. 🫱🏼🫲🏾 2. Increased Collaboration and Alignment: Fewer stakeholders means fewer approvals or hoops to jump through. This is enhanced with tight timelines, which makes raising risks, committing to trade-offs, and holding stakeholders accountable to scope and value easier. In turn, this helps the team build stronger working relationships, increase shared understanding, and commit to goals and decisions. 🗣️ 3. Improved Communication and Transparency: Commitment to tiger teams requires someone (typically a super-skilled product leader or facilitator, like me 🙋🏻♀️) to block distractions. This can be accomplished with effective standups, frequent check-ins, real-time feedback loops, increased synchronous working sessions, and frequent asynchronous feedback. In turn, the team builds greater communication, transparency, and even tighter alignment (see #2). 📦 4. Accelerated Delivery: The dedicated, cross-functional nature of a tiger team enables faster development and deployment of solutions, helping projects move faster and deliver value more frequently. This is what brings joy and satisfaction to developers. They light up when they get to push code and ship value 📦. Being a part of that experience is so gratifying! 🧰 5. Skills Development: Tiger teams provide opportunities for cross-training, co-learning, and expanded skill development. Tight timelines and close collaboration expose skillsets and opportunities to learn quickly from others and, in some cases, support up-skilling, fast! ⚡️6. Innovative Thinking: With the right leadership, prioritization clarity, and time-boxing activities, tiger teams turn over-thinking into rapid prototyping, iteration, and creativity. This is how innovation is ignited! 🏆 7. Increased Ownership and Accountability: Of course, all of this hinges on the foundation of high-performing teams: psychological safety, trust, and goal clarity. When the goal is clear and the team feels safe and empowered, tiger team members step up with a greater sense of responsibility and ownership of the project's success.
