CN: mentions of physical and emotional abuse Every child deserves an education that prepares them for an open future. But too many homeschooled children don't get that opportunity. Because state homeschool laws are so lax, there's often no one checking to make sure these children have what they need to learn. Kelley was one of those children. Other than buying her school books, Kelley's homeschooling mother did nothing to educate her child once she reached high school age. Kelley had no choice but to try to teach herself while dealing with physical and emotional abuse at home. No child should have to experience something like this. At CRHE, we remain committed to fighting for a better world for homeschooled children like Kelley.

School is about much more than learning in a classroom. It’s about growing through new experiences. Taking part in sports, bands, theater productions, debate clubs, and other activities give children the opportunity to develop the life skills that help them enjoy today and be prepared for tomorrow. Every child deserves to access these school resources and activities. But under current state laws, homeschooled children only have inconsistent access to them. It’s time for that to change. The Make Homeschool Safe Act will allow homeschooled children to take part in their local public school’s activities as long as fairness, eligibility, and funding requirements are met. It will change the game for homeschooled children – once it’s implemented. We need your help to make that happen. Your gift of $25 helps us get the Make Homeschool Safe Act in front of leaders who can bring it to life in their states. Every dollar makes a difference: https://lnkd.in/e4zwDQQp

As a homeschooled child, Rebecca got a strong math and science education from her parents. But English wasn't their strong suit. Rebecca's parents' struggle with writing became Rebecca's struggle, too. From Rebecca: "I had no idea how to structure a paper or even what a “thesis sentence” was until a college professor actually sat me down and asked me what I knew about writing." Rebecca wasn't alone when it came to educational neglect. She knew other children in her homeschool co-op whose parents claimed that playing with American Girl dolls counted as history lessons, and that counting out change at the grocery store counted as math lessons. Homeschooled children deserve better than this. That's why we created the Make Homeschool Safe Act, first-of-its-kind model legislation that protects homeschooled children's right to learn. We need your help to get this law in front of leaders across the country who can help bring it to life. Your gift of $25 helps us spread the word about the Make Homeschool Safe. CN: mentions of gun violence After every mass shooting in a school, homeschool advocates position homeschooling as the answer to protect children from violence. But it's not that simple. Homeschooling is not the solution to protecting children from gun violence. The past decade alone has seen a rise in mass shootings at movie theaters, grocery stores, churches, concerts, and other locations frequented by children. Removing children from school does not guarantee they will not encounter gun violence elsewhere. In fact, several homeschooled children have lost their lives at the hands of mass shooters in their own homes. It's clear: Individual educational choices are not a solution to a collective societal problem. All children deserve a high-quality education in safe, supportive environment. Instead of abandoning schools in the name of protecting children, we urge parents and policymakers to renew their commitment to making our schools and communities safer.
