Updates

  • A CVC staffer was dropping off some old electronics for recycling at BestBuy, and while they were there, they asked for clarification on what other electronics the store will take. Many electronics they will take back for free--old laptops, ear buds, and cell phones were what we dropped off. They will also take televisions smaller than 50" for a small fee of $30, but if you bring two, they can only be 42" or smaller and the fee is more. They cannot take televisions larger than 50", and no loose batteries.

  • Our annual Green Film Festival is this weekend, May 31-June 1! We hope you'll join us for these impactful films. On Friday, May 31, at 7pm in the Heights Community Church fellowship hall, one of the films we're showing will be the short film "A River Called Home." It follows the journey of four women who launch at the headwaters of the James River in Virginia and paddle to the Chesapeake Bay. For three weeks, the team faces challenges along the way, including whitewater rapids and a river with a history of pollution. Along the way, the team conducts a water quality study, asking how our waterways are being protected and what more we have left to do. https://lnkd.in/gsuA79jw

  • Do you have stuff you are no longer using but still has life left in it? Bring it to the Take It or Leave It tent at tomorrow's Rethink Reuse, Repair Fair, and also look to see if someone else has left something that YOU might want. You are welcome to bring clothing, shoes, accessories, linens, small appliances, books, and good usable furniture. Any of these items that remain by the end of the event will be given to the Roanoke Rescue Mission. They will be bringing a truck to transport these donations, and they have also provided us with a guideline sheet that can help you figure out if your items will be accepted. We hope to see you there!
