Mayor Ken Adams and the Board of Aldermen of the City of Olive Branch are proud to recognize World War II Veteran, K.T. Robbins, and his advocacy for Veterans of Age at the June 4th Board of Aldermen Meeting. Mayor Adams and the Board of Aldermen were joined by State Senator David Parker and State Representative Kimberly Remak to acknowledge Mr. Robbins and celebrate that through his efforts an amendment to Mississippi House Bill 1378 Section 27-33-75 was adopted by the State Legislature. The amendment aims to provide that a qualified homeowner who is an honorably discharged American Veteran and has reached 90 years of age on or before January 1 of the year for which homestead exemption is claimed, shall be allowed an exemption from all Ad Valorem taxes on the assessed value of the homestead property. This act will take effect starting July 1, 2024. Mr. Robbins was born July 4, 1921 and is a U.S. Army, World War II Veteran. He will be celebrating his 103rd birthday in 2024. In 2023, Mr. Robbins came before the Board of Aldermen to request that the City of Olive Branch adopt a City Ordinance to waive Ad Valorem Taxes for Veterans of age. Mayor Adams shared this information with DeSoto County’s State Representatives.

The City of Olive Branch City Beautification Committee and Olive Branch Fire Department are pleased to announce the Paint-A-Hydrant Program. High School Art Students who are residents of the City of Olive Branch will be permitted to "adopt" a fire hydrant in City Park. Your adoption will give you the opportunity to help turn our fire hydrants into works of art. There will be no specific theme for the fire hydrants, but artists are encouraged to incorporate different elements of the community into their art. This program will specifically be for hydrants in City Park during its Pilot release. Mayor Adams and the Board of Aldermen recognized Communications Coordinator, Jennifer Griffith, for the Mayor’s Award for the month of April 2024 during Tuesday's Board of Aldermen meeting. Jenn was nominated for this award for her outstanding work with the Mayor’s Youth Council. Our inaugural year included 25 students from 6 schools. This group has logged almost 100 hours of community service through various City led events and service opportunities. Jenn has been instrumental in scheduling the monthly meetings for these students and planned the summit trip to Starkville, MS. When Jenn recently had the opportunity to set up a table at the Career Tech Center East event, held at Center Hill, some of the students in our Mayor’s Youth Council came by and were encouraging their classmates to be sure and sign up to be a part of this program next year, because they had such a great time, this year. The overwhelming success of this program is in most part due to Jenn’s unwavering dedication and tireless work she put into it. Jenn is a huge asset to our Communications team, City Staff as a whole, and the City of Olive Branch. She’s always willing to help anyone in need and consistently has a positive attitude.
