A huge shoutout and heartfelt thanks to our amazing McKinney Public Works Department! When winter weather sneaks in, they step up in a big way, transitioning to 24-hour operations to continuously monitor and address road conditions. Their hardworking crews treat over 1,700 lane miles of roadway, prioritizing key areas like: ❄️ Bridges and overpasses ❄️ Intersections and steep inclines ❄️ Major roadways ❄️ Routes near hospitals and emergency facilities They also coordinate with partner agencies to keep major roadways clear: ❄️ U.S. 75, U.S. 380, Highway 5, and Custer Road are maintained by TxDOT ❄️ Sam Rayburn Tollway (121) is maintained by NTTA While snow plowing isn’t typically required in our region due to natural warming, the proactive efforts of the Public Works team make a huge difference when icy weather hits! As a safety reminder, residents are advised to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary during winter weather conditions. This helps reduce accidents and allows crews to work more efficiently. Thank you to the Public Works team for always going above and beyond to keep McKinney safe! We appreciate you!

Louisiana St. Call or text 214-945-4637 for more information. ❄️ McKinney is under a Winter Storm Watch that will be in effect late Wednesday night through midday Friday. Check on your elderly neighbors, family, and anyone who may be vulnerable in winter conditions. Bring your pets and plants inside! Consider altering any travel plans and staying home if you can! Follow US National Weather Service Fort Worth Texas for the most up-to-date weather info. ❄️ Freezing temperatures can cause water pipes to burst, resulting in costly damage to homes. Take time to protect your home and water pipes. • Allow hot and cold water to run a thin stream the width of a pencil lead. • Open cabinet doors under sinks to expose pipes to heat within the house. • Wrap exposed exterior pipes and faucets with foam insulation or newspaper. • Remove garden hoses from outside faucets. Freeze sensors are required on all sprinkler systems to keep them from operating during cold weather. • Cover all openings around the foundation.
