Well wishes to Arianna Aguilera as she continues on her career journey! Arianna joined the City of Martinez part-time in Spring 2023 as the Sustainability Programs Assistant, as part of the City’s internship program. She led or provided instrumental support for various projects, including Green Business Recertification of City Hall and the Police Department, business outreach on waste diversion programs, implementation of our City Staff Bike Share Program, sustainability communications, and more. We wish Arianna all the best in her upcoming full-time fellowship position with Contra Costa County. Though we’ll miss her at City Hall, we’re so excited for her future where she will continue to make Martinez and the County more sustainable!

About us
We are a city organization that provides city services and support to Martinez’s residents and businesses. City services include public safety, street and park maintenance, recreation, and community development. We think this is an awesome place to live, but not just because of our growing Downtown with a variety of restaurants, shops and breweries, or because of our beautiful open spaces and recreation opportunities, or even because of our gorgeous weather throughout the year. What makes Martinez great is the sense of community that embodies every neighborhood and business in this city. As a family-friendly city, it helps that we have great access to parks with recreation programs, a community pool, several sporting fields and courts. Families who decide to lay roots in Martinez find themselves staying for generations. Businesses who choose Martinez do it because they welcomed into a vibrant hub of makers and hometown innovators. Our history is one that cannot be underestimated. Martinez was established in 1847 and became the home of the County seat in 1850. The famous naturalist John Muir called Martinez home until his passing in 1914. Martinez was also where Hall of Fame baseball player Joe DiMaggio was born. Pretty cool, right? The City of Martinez has experienced the highest increase in property values in Contra Costa County, with a significant 6.1% rise in 2024. “This increase in property values shows that people are taking a fresh look at Martinez, and they like what they see and want to buy into our community,” said Mayor Brianne Zorn. “Martinez is still one of the most affordable cities in the Bay Area, and these numbers show we also have strong value and opportunities for growth.” The 2024 increase caps off a remarkable three-year run, with property values increasing a combined 17.6% from 2021 to 2024. According to HdL Coren & Cone, which tracks property tax data for the city, about two-thirds of the increase is attributed to activity in the residential market. This includes an influx of families buying existing homes, as well as new housing projects such as Traditions at the Valley and the Lauren Knoll housing communities. The remaining 33% of property value increases were generated by new construction and transactions in the industrial and retail sectors, with industrial values jumping 14% in 2024. The increase in property values comes at a time when Martinez has launched several business-friendly initiatives. After years of planning, the City received final approval for a visionary plan to redevelop its stunning 135-acre waterfront, including a 330-slip marina. The City has also enjoyed new vitality in its Downtown area, the construction of several new major County offices, the emergence of tech employers in its industrial zones, and a lively arts and dining scene. Additionally, the increase in property values is welcome news for a community with ambitious plans for the future. Despite managing a tight city budget in recent years, the City Council approved modest budget cuts earlier this year in response to the end of Federal ARPA funding. While the City continues to take a conservative approach to its budget, it is optimistic about the financial outlook signaled by the strong property values.
