Last night, City Colleges Chancellor Juan Salgado joined elected officials and community leaders to welcome City Colleges of Chicago-Wilbur Wright College's new president Dr. Andrés A. Oroz. Thank you to Chairman of the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Senator Omar Aquino and State Representative Eva-Dina Delgado for your remarks and partnership. Dr. Oroz is coming to Wright, a Hispanic Serving Institution, at an exciting time of growth as the college just renewed the Seal of Excelencia. At City Colleges of Chicago, we're focused on creating the nation’s premier community college pathway to an engineering degree. This morning, we announced the launch of the City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering, which will bring the engineering program model at City Colleges of Chicago-Wilbur Wright College to additional City Colleges: City Colleges of Chicago-Harold Washington College and City Colleges of Chicago-Harry S Truman College in fall 2025, and to City Colleges of Chicago-Richard J Daley College and City Colleges of Chicago-Olive-Harvey College in fall 2026. We look forward to all colleges being ready to deliver this engineering program model in the coming years. We also unveiled the Engineering Access Alliance, an expanded partnership with top-ranked The Grainger College of Engineering at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This strengthened partnership will make it easier for students to transfer to and succeed at Grainger through guaranteed admissions, co-advising, access to additional opportunities, and more. https://lnkd.in/gz3M5wMX

By scaling programs and initiatives that work for Latine students across our system, we can help more students succeed. Executive Vice Chancellor Veronica Herrero joined an Excelencia in Education panel in Washington, D.C., yesterday to discuss just that—how we can support Latine and all students by leveraging evidence-based practices. Herrero’s remarks come just as City Colleges of Chicago-Wilbur Wright College earned recertification of its Seal of Excelencia.
