GRAND OPENING (Cameron Park Zoo) — The City of Waco celebrated the grand opening of the Corwin, Estes, and Jaynes Education Center and the Carol Schmidhauser Veterinary Hospital at Cameron Park Zoo! The Corwin, Estes, and Jaynes Education Center The 11,600-square-foot center is dedicated to teaching more about animal conservation. It will house 'animal ambassadors,' including snakes and small reptiles, dedicated to hands-on learning. It features multiple classrooms, offices, event rental spaces, and technology that will enable worldwide remote learning experiences! The Carol Schmidhauser Veterinary Hospital The 8,900-square-foot hospital is dedicated to the health and wellness of all zoo animals in our care. It offers space to quarantine new animals when they arrive at the zoo, evaluation areas, treatment rooms, and state-of-the-art surgery suites. It also has spaces tailored for various types of animals requiring controlled environments for treatment. Waco Fire Department crews responded to a house fire over the weekend. After ensuring the family was safely evacuated, it became apparent that the family cat suffered from smoke inhalation.
