The city's incredible Solid Waste Operations TEAM is gearing up to participate in the annual 4th of July Celebration Parade with one of their garbage trucks. Justin Elkins and his wife, Savannah, will represent the Department of Public Works in this year's parade. Come and enjoy games, food, and music as we celebrate our nation's Independence Day! The event will kick off at 5 pm with the 4th of July Celebration parade. There will be live entertainment, food trucks, games, and much more in our lively downtown Tavares. And be sure not to miss the highlight of the evening - our breathtaking fireworks display over Lake Dora! I also want to extend my thanks to the entire Department of Public Works TEAM for their support of this incredible event. Keep on Propelling our Vibrant Community TEAM!!!

  • City of Tavares, Department of Public Works - First Responder Resolution Last night, I had the honor of presenting a resolution to our esteemed City Council, acknowledging the invaluable role of ALL Tavares Public Works Personnel as first responders. This often under appreciated role is absolutely vital to the safety and well-being of our community. I am pleased to share that the City of Tavares Council members, recognizing the significance of this role, unanimously voted (5-0) to approve our First Responder Resolution. This is a remarkable accomplishment to be officially part of the First Responder Family. As many of you are aware, Public Works is not just "the silent arm of public safety" but a crucial pillar, providing essential support to emergency response partners, safeguarding critical services, and reinstating those services in the aftermath of an emergency.

  • We extend our sincerest gratitude to DeAnna and the entire LTC Family for their invaluable support in helping us establish the first Cemetery and Arboretum in the State of Florida. This groundbreaking project beautifully exemplifies the exceptional training provided by Lake Technical College. Keep on propelling LTC!!!

Lake Technical College recently partnered with the City of Tavares to create and install an impressive entrance gate for their cemetery and arboretum. Our skilled welding students/faculty handled fabrication and installation, and our auto collision students delivered top-notch painting skills, resulting in a beautiful project. Great job, everyone! #fltechnicalcolleges #partnershipgoals

  • The City of Tavares has proclaimed May 19 through May 25, 2024, as "National Public Works Week". As part of the week's recognition, I want to give special recognition to all our dedicated Public Works personnel. They make our community a dynamic place to live, work, and play. Please join us in celebrating the quiet work these professionals do that makes life better for all of us! It's interesting to note that National Public Works Week has been sponsored by the American Public Works Association since 1960. This week serves as a platform for Public Works Departments across North America to energize and educate the public about the importance of public works in our daily lives. It's about planning, building, managing, and operating infrastructure that is central to our local communities and improves our quality of life. This year's theme is "Advancing Quality of Life for All," which highlights the role of Public Works in maintaining and improving infrastructure and services that are crucial for providing a high quality of life for residents of the City of Tavares.
