The Saginaw Fire Department hosted its annual Fire Awards and Memorial Ceremony today at the Central Fire Station. The event recognized the efforts of citizens, firefighters, and other first responders who have made the City of Saginaw a safer community. This morning was a great opportunity to say THANK YOU to these heroic men and women for their lifesaving efforts. We also want to congratulate our Firefighter of the Year, Engineer Cody Beaver.

Today, the City of Saginaw celebrated the career and contributions of Fire Chief Tom Raines. Chief Raines will retire from the City of Saginaw on September 21. Chief Raines began his employment with the Fire Department in 1994 as a Fire Fighter. Throughout his career, he was promoted to various positions within the department, including Fire Chauffeur/Engineer, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, Fire Battalion Chief, and was promoted to Fire Chief in 2021. Chief Raines received numerous commendations during his career, including a Distinguished Service award, four Unit Citations, five Meritorious Service awards and Fire Fighter of the Year. Tom will be remembered for his commitment to the fire service in Saginaw and his enthusiasm for improvements to safety. Thank you, Chief Raines, for your many years of service to the City of Saginaw. We appreciate your dedication and commitment to keep our city safe. You have made a tremendous impact in the lives of many in Saginaw. We wish you and your family many years of health and happiness!!
