From Side Gig to Success Maegan and Marc Flores moved to West Texas from the Houston area in 2019. When the pair arrived in the Permian Basin, they brought their rental business, M&M Party Rentals, with them. “We moved out here for various work reasons. At the time, we were both working our 9-to-5 jobs,” Maegan shared. They explained that they originally started the business to teach their children about work ethic and what it takes to become an entrepreneur. What began as a weekend side gig quickly changed the Flores family's lives. “We started getting so busy with school events and other events that I began focusing on the business full-time. Maegan still has her job, but she takes time off during the busy months,” Marc said. The Flores family's youngest son was born in 2021 just a few years after they started the business. He was a big inspiration for Marc to further pursue the business full time. He is autistic and non-verbal, and this family business has allowed Marc and Maegan the flexibility to spend time raising him. “We always wanted something that our kids could do with us, something that didn’t take us away from home,” Marc shared. The pair tells us that their family-owned business wouldn’t be what it is today if they hadn’t moved to Odessa. For the Flores family, getting to make kids' party dreams come true reminds them why they started in the first place. The goal of the event is to raise money for the Permian Basin Restaurant Association, which provides educational scholarships to students and supplies for local high school and college culinary programs. The Legacy of Patrick Clay Rodriguez In 2020, the Rodriguez family lost their youngest brother and son, Patrick, to COVID at age 31. At the time of his death, Patrick was in the early stages of starting a business with his brother Shawn and their good friend Bradley Marquez, a former NFL receiver and Odessa High Bronchos star athlete. “Patrick was living in Midland at the time, and their development department approached him and asked if he wanted a building downtown. He told me, ‘Mom, why would I open this in Midland? I grew up in Odessa,’” Yolanda, Patrick’s mother, shared. Patrick dreamed of opening a restaurant with his three brothers: Shawn, Jamie, and Eric. When he passed away, the family knew they had to push forward to open what was, at the time, set to be called Iconic Tavern. “He was so involved in youth sports here, and this was really his idea and dream—to open a sports bar we wanted to honor that,” Shawn said. So, the Rodriguez family named the bar and grill Patrick Clay’s Icon Tavern in honor of their beloved brother and son. In 2023, the city proclaimed October 3rd as Patrick Clay Rodriguez Day, honoring a true icon, not only to his family but to Odessa as well. “Patrick was so much younger than all of us. We practically raised him, and the biggest lesson he left me with was how to be a dad,” Eric shared.  The family has no doubt that Patrick is smiling down on Patrick Clay’s Icon Tavern every day. A Fusion of Cultures and Flavors  John Jin, Manuel Franco and Hector Molina are the “three brothers” behind Sushi Brothers. The trio got to know each other and the restaurant business while working at Osaka Japanese Steakhouse.  “We all worked in different positions, so we had the idea to come together and create an Asian fusion restaurant,” John shared.  John is from Korea, while Manuel and Hector are from Mexico. Together, they felt they had a solid understanding of dishes that everyone would enjoy. They combined their culinary backgrounds to bring it all together in Odessa.  Manuel says, “I know Mexican food and American food.” John added, “And being from Korea, I know Asian food and how popular K-Pop is right now. I knew this would work.”  Sushi Brothers has only been open for a month, but their fusion food has already become the talk of the town.  “Just in the first month, we've had a lot of supporters. We’re so happy because we just want everyone to enjoy the food,” John shared.  Three unlikely “brothers” are serving up fun fusion food! They tell us their signature dish is Mexican sushi rice bowls.   Sushi Brothers  📍1351 E Eight St  📱(432) 614-1786 ✅BrighterFuture #OdessaProud #Sushi

A Legacy in Soccer Antero "Terry" Perez is a passionate soccer enthusiast. His love for the sport led him to start as a volunteer coach at the Odessa Soccer Association in 1980. Initially, he helped out on weekends at Sherwood Park where his son played in a children's league. Ten years later, Terry’s children began playing for local clubs. By that time, he was already dreaming of forming his own league. It took another decade before the "Statik" league was founded in early 2000. The journey wasn't easy. Terry decided to purchase his own land to keep growing his league. With the help of his wife, they expanded to include teams for women, children and men. Today the league boasts one indoor field and two outdoor fields, offering hundreds of families a chance to play soccer during the summer. Terry proudly shares how the league helps people forget their problems and enjoy the sport they love. He’s also proud to see not only his children but also his grandchildren participating in the league. Alongside his soccer legacy, he manages his own business, an air conditioning installation and maintenance business. His message is simple: unite your family in a common goal and you will see positive results. Statik Soccer League Statik Heating & Cooling (432)553-4024 ✅BrighterFuture #OdessaProud
