The City of Dunwoody invites volunteers to participate in the #GreatDunwoodyCleanup on Saturday, November 2. This community-wide event is designed to make it easy for individuals, families, neighbors, teams, schools, and civic groups to keep streams and storm drains clean by removing trash and debris from public areas. “This is our fourth year for the event, and we’re excited to see it grow,” said Dunwoody Stormwater Engineer Cody Dallas. “This volunteer event is accessible and flexible. It allows everyone to do their part to keep trash and debris from polluting our waterways.” Individual participants and groups are encouraged to do the following: 1) Choose a spot to clean in Dunwoody. It can be a street, stream, neighborhood common area, or wooded area. 2) Fill out an online form to share plans with Dunwoody’s stormwater team. 3) Post photos on Nov. 2 using the hashtag #GreatDunwoodyCleanup. Email the photos to [email protected]. The Dunwoody Nature Center is also participating by leading a cleanup project on Nov. 2. As additional group volunteer opportunities arise, details will be posted here: https://lnkd.in/dT5Y9KVt. This is a rain-or-shine event that will last from sunrise to sundown. Community service verification is available upon request.

Dunwoody's first Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) has been activated at Ashford Dunwoody Road and Valley View Road. The signal timing adjustment gives pedestrians crossing Ashford Dunwoody a 3-second head start before vehicles get a green light. This makes pedestrians more visible to drivers with a very minimal impact on the amount of time that drivers wait for green. Leading pedestrian intervals are a proven safety countermeasure. They've been proven to reduce conflicts between people walking and people driving.

As part of the new Dunwoody Road Safety Action Plan, we’re planning a pilot project focused on pedestrian and driver safety on Nandina Lane. Since 2017, a total of 51 crashes have been recorded at the intersection of Nandina and Mt. Vernon Road. Nine of those involved injuries, including a serious injury. Starting the week of Oct. 14, we’ll close the northbound direction on Nandina Lane between Mt. Vernon Road and the first driveway on Nandina Lane. The rest of Nandina will remain open to two-way traffic. Future work includes potentially realigning the intersection. This project is consistent with the Dunwoody Village Master Plan. Goals include consistent driver compliance with stopping at the stop sign and yielding to pedestrians in the crosswalk.
