After an enthusiastic inaugural round of GCP Seeds of Change Grant Program, this second round focused on supporting creative and innovative climate projects led by youth ages 15-24 or youth-serving organizations. Today, City Manager Sheryl Long was thrilled to join Mayor Aftab and our partners at UC Health to announce a life-changing initiative that will ease the financial and mental strain of medical debt for thousands of our neighbors. As part of the City's Financial Freedom Blueprint, we're officially announcing the start of Cincinnati's Medical Debt Relief program for city residents. This has been a true team effort, with City staff from multiple departments working tirelessly over the past year to make this possible, in partnership with UC Health and Undue Medical Debt. As part of this program, we've allocated $1.45 million toward relief of this debt for our community. We're excited to be offering this important support for Cincinnatians, but we’re not stopping at debt relief. We’ll also be connecting residents to Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential services to prevent future financial hardships. A special shoutout to Assistant City Manager Virginia Tallent, Dr. Maryse Amin, our Assistant Health Commissioner, and Deanna White, Director of the Office of Human Services, for leading the charge. Huge thanks also to Monica Pepple, MSW from our Office of Performance and Data Analytics and Ian Doig from the Solicitor’s Office—your dedication is inspiring! We can't wait to see the positive change it brings to our great city. #CincinnatiStrong #MedicalDebtRelief #CommunitySupport #ClosingTheGap

We're incredibly grateful for the amazing organizations and partnerships working throughout our neighborhoods! This summer, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission's Bond Hill Recreation Area and Recreation Center were transformed during the 2024 Community Makeover Day. Over 500 volunteers from The Cincinnati Reds, Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, GE Aerospace, Kroger, and more came together for this incredible project. Thanks to their efforts, we now have a new synthetic ballfield, walking path, community garden, teen room, updated signage, and more. This revitalization ensures that the Bond Hill community can continue to enjoy and invest in their local indoor and outdoor public spaces.
