Earlier this month, the city was recognized by the American Planning Association - North Carolina Chapter for the engagement work done for the Freedom/Wilkinson Corridors of Opportunity Playbook. Congratulations to all of the city staff who played integral parts in this achievement, and shout out to the Charlotte Urban Design Center and QC Family Tree for their roles in this amazing project!

We could not be more excited to announce the launch of our 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗖 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝘂𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 (𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗶) 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺! REDi, made possible through support from the City of Charlotte and Wells Fargo, will offer training and support to dramatically accelerate the number of developers who are credit-ready and better equipped to utilize capital to advance their projects. REDi will support more inclusive and equitable wealth creation among emerging developers. Through a cohort-based curriculum, firms will receive technical assistance, coaching, and access to resources that will equip them to reduce barriers to market entry and expansion. Participating owners or senior partners must meet eligibility requirements. Firms located in the Corridors of Opportunity geography, or that have a real estate project located in the Corridors geography will be prioritized for program participation. We aim to help program participants expand their capacity and access to projects, while becoming more competitive as the City of Charlotte’s affordable housing and commercial project pipeline grows. In Fiscal Year 2025, the City of Charlotte received a $3.75 million Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This funding helps low-income persons living with HIV and AIDS and their families achieve and maintain housing stability and improves their access to and engagement in HIV/AIDS treatment and care. We checked in with RAO Community Health, one of the organizations currently putting HOPWA funds to great use throughout the Greater Charlotte area. Hear from Teresa Connor, Dr. Bernard Davis, and our very own Akeen McDuffie from Housing & Neighborhood Services to learn more about this beneficial partnership and how it helps our residents. #HOPWA #HUDGrant #HousingIsHealthcare #CLTCC

For the second straight year, a City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services employee was awarded the Garby for Municipal Solid Waste Employee of the Year at the annual conference of the North Carolina Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America. Congratulations to Gregory "Leon" Lampkin! Lampkin has been hard at work with the city for 25 years. Not only do we applaud this achievement and his dedication to the residents of Charlotte, but we also have to give some appreciation to his not-so-secret identity... the Recycle-Nator! Please join us in congratulating Lampkin! #TeamCharlotte is lucky to have you.

You’re invited to the GreenPrints Kickoff! In partnership with the City of Charlotte's Office of Sustainability and Resilience, CleanAIRE NC, Sol Nation Inc, and the Knight Foundation the Corridors of Opportunity team will host a community forum kickoff to discuss environmental justice in the Freedom/Wilkinson and Beatties Ford/Rozzelles Ferry Corridors. These neighborhoods have long faced disproportionate environmental burdens. GreenPrints aims to change that by addressing issues such as air pollution, energy affordability, flooding, and preserving green spaces. The GreenPrints initiative will create comprehensive plans for these areas. Come learn more on Saturday, October 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Dubois Center (320 E 9th Street)! Register at https://lnkd.in/eJ2aSYWW. #GreenPrints #CorridorsOfOpportunity #EnvironmentalJustice #ClimateInequality
