We are excited to announce that renowned author and transportation expert Angie Schmitt will be giving the presentation titled: “The Pedestrian Crisis in America: Why It’s Happening”. The presentation will discuss the pedestrian safety crisis in our country, social trends that are putting people at risk, and why, fundamentally, it is a problem of systematic, structural inequality. The event will take place on: Wednesday, September 25 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Neal S. Blaisdell Center, Hawaiʻi Suite. 777 Ward Avenue, Honolulu Schmitt is the author of the new book Right of Way: Race, Class and the Silent Crisis of Pedestrian Deaths in America and will talk about the social trends that are putting people at risk. The 2024 Oʻahu Vision Zero Action Plan revealed that, locally, this issue disproportionately impacts people walking, kūpuna, and lower-income communities. Thank you to Ulupono Initiative for sponsoring the event! We encourage our guests to walk, roll, bike, or bus to the event. Parking will be available at Blaisdell Center for a fee. The public is invited to this free presentation and can sign up for admissions here: https://lnkd.in/grU-tdpp #HOLOWithUs

Check Out the Kaʻala Elementary Safe Walking Route, a program which helps get students to school on time and safely. This safe walking route ensures that students have adult supervision walking from their homes to Kaʻala Elementary. It also provides them with social interactions with the volunteers and peers before school, and of course, the exercise and physical activity for healthy growth. Mahalo to the volunteers, parents, teachers, staff and students of Kaʻala Elementary out in Wahiawa! If you are interested in creating a Safe Walking Route, or Walking School Bus for your school, please visit: www8.honolulu.gov/dts/srts or https://lnkd.in/gBWrAUJQ for more information. #SafeRoutesToSchool #WalkRollBike #pedestriansafety #HOLOWithUs
