Below is a link to an op-ed from CBB's founder and CEO, Craig Floyd, about Kamala Harris' record on policing, which includes: supporting defunding the police, wants to reimagine policing, believes that lowering the prison population is good for public safety, and favors soft-on-crime policies--including leniency for cop killers. https://lnkd.in/eRdpsvRB #behindbadge #police #lawenforcement

Our vision is to become the leading voice of the American people in support of the men and women in law enforcement.
About us
The mission of Citizens Behind the Badge is to put an end to the misguided and disastrous movement to "defund the police" and to ensure that our law enforcement professionals receive the support and resources needed to keep America safe. Founded in 2020, Citizens Behind the Badge is dedicated to becoming the leading voice of the American people in support of the men and women in law enforcement. Our goals are to counter and put an end to the misguided and disastrous movement to “defund the police,” to ensure that law enforcement receives the resources needed to keep our nation safe; to conduct a massive public education campaign in support of law enforcement; to significantly bolster law enforcement recruitment efforts; to promote pro-law enforcement matters from the grassroots perspective; to help make the economic, social and media environment safer for law enforcement personnel and their families; and to advance local, state and federal domestic policy in support of this important mission. Citizens Behind the Badge is a nonprofit 501(c)(4) tax-exempt organization based in McLean, Virginia. It was founded by Craig W. Floyd, Founding CEO Emeritus of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Under Craig’s leadership, two national treasures were created: the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in 1991; and the National Law Enforcement Museum in 2018. Joining him as founding board members are Bill Erfurth, a retired and highly distinguished 26-year-veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department, and Dennis Collins, the father of a law enforcement officer and a longtime advocate and volunteer leader in the policing profession.

In New York City, the number of people under the age of 18 accused of or arrested for major crimes—including murder, robbery and assaults—increased by 37% from 2017-2023. And the number of young victims soared by 54% during the same period. And this year through October 1, there has been a 17% increase in persons under the age of 18 accused of committing felony assaults and robberies compared to the same time last year. Recently, there have also been reports that a group of young migrants, many from Venezuela—some as young as 11—are robbing people at knife point and gun point in Central Park. https://lnkd.in/dXKPx3Ax #behindbadge #youthcrime #police

In New York City, the number of assaults against police officers has skyrocketed to unprecedented levels. So far in 2024, the number of assaults against officers (1,975) is 41% higher than the same period last year (1,763). When compared to 2019 (year before “defund” movement started), assaults against NYPD officers have risen by 60%. Assaults against police officers have risen for five straight years. Police officials cite a growing disrespect for cops and the rule of law, along with a belief that assaulting a police officer will go unpunished as the reasons for the dramatic increase. “Years ago, you had to be really crazy to fight cops,” said a longtime NYPD officer. “Now it’s open season for everyone — the protestors, the migrants, even the regular career criminals.” https://lnkd.in/ePAubV-w #behindbadge #police #lawenforcement

Very sad news out of Detroit. On Monday, an off-duty Detroit police officer experiencing a mental health crisis was threatening suicide. When his fellow officers responded after receiving a 9-1-1 call for help, the off-duty officer fired on them, wounding two of the officers. The off-duty officer was shot and killed when officers returned fire. Police suicide is a serious problem. The rate of suicide among police officers is 54% higher than the average person. An average of 224 officers die by suicide each year, according to Blue H.E.L.P., a nonprofit organization that tracks police suicides. The trauma experienced by officers is a major contributing factor. While the average person will experience four to six traumatic events in his or her lifetime, a police officer will experience 400-600 throughout his or her career. https://lnkd.in/e9BXgZs2 #behindbadge #PoliceSuicide #lawenforcement
