About us
The Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman (CIS Ombudsman) serves as a liaison between the public and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). We are an independent office in the Department of Homeland Security and are not part of USCIS. Our mission is to: 1) Assist individuals and employers in resolving problems experienced when seeking immigration benefits from USCIS. 2) Identify trends and areas in which individuals and employers have problems dealing with USCIS. 3) Recommend changes in USCIS’ administrative practices to mitigate problems and enhance processes.
