They worked through CRISPR in a Box with ease, asking questions along the way and surprising our senior scientists with the tremendous progress they were able to make in just two hours. Elevating student talent and building a pipeline of future scientists are integral to the Gene Editing 360 mission of community and collaboration, and we accomplished that with these students. Go forth and conquer, Teen Executives! We're ready to see the world you create!

We are thrilled to announce that Olivia Tharp, one of our staff scientists and graduate research students, just published a culmination of her work on CRISPR-directed gene editing and the unforeseen impact of gene editing on a cut site in relation to sickle cell disease treatment. Learning more about these genetic rearrangements will make our therapeutic tools more effective and safer for the future of genetic medicine. We're pleased to watch our scientists create strong data to spur healthcare forward. Read more below!

We're forging a pathway for future scientists right here in our lab! How? Through FORGES! We were ecstatic to receive the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Delaware's CHARM program, their biochemistry and materials science departments, and the Chemours company in this innovative summer program. FORGES is a week of summer programming for high school students and their teachers, where students experience different areas of science, research programs, and industry collaboration. We hosted students in our Learning Lab, where they learned the value of PPE and proper handwashing technique, how to modify plasmid DNA with CRISPR, and where gene editing fits into our greater healthcare goals for the future, especially in cancer treatment. Students left with certificates and a new perspective on this groundbreaking technology, and we hope to see them in our research labs in the future! Congratulations, Deirdre E. Hake, MBA, on being named one of Philadelphia Business Journal's 2024 Women of Influence! Deirdre Hake, MBA, has a career that spans more than 15 years forging strategic relationships to sustain operations and impact for local and national organizations, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters in Southeastern PA and the Spark Program. As Director of Strategy and Operations at the Gene Editing Institute, Deirdre leads external affairs, operations, strategy, and business development for the Gene Editing Institute. Additionally, Deirdre oversees Gene Editing 360™ - GEI’s educational program, which aims to provide a suite of highly flexible, hands-on educational tools designed to launch high school and college students on a journey of learning and discovery about the fundamentals of CRISPR gene editing technology. The New Castle County Chamber of Commerce hosted the State of the County last week, which was a stellar opportunity for us to show off the progress we've made this year in cancer research and STEM community outreach. We shared our highs and heard key insights from our colleagues in the industry on what the upcoming year can offer not only for healthcare, but for business, innovation, and development. We look forward to the next one!

We're thrilled to celebrate Natalia Rivera-Torres, on her appointment to the Delaware BioScience Association's board of directors! Natalia is a driving force in our lab space who continuously pushes our science to the next level, and her work into precision in CRISPR cuts has changed the way we think about lung cancer care.
