About us

At Children’s Nebraska, our mission is to improve the life of every child through exceptional care, advocacy, research and education. From primary to specialty care, and everything in between: We are here to provide excellent care for your child. As a freestanding, independent nonprofit hospital, we value innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence. We are the only full-service, pediatric health care center in Nebraska, providing expertise in primary care and more than 50 pediatric specialty services to children and families across a five-state region and beyond. Children’s is home to Nebraska’s only Level IV regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the state’s only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and is recognized as a 2023-24 Best Children’s Hospital by U.S. News & World Report in the pediatric specialty of Pulmonology. As an organization, we lead with a People First philosophy, defined by our commitment to fostering an environment of safety, trust and belonging. Children’s celebrates a diverse, inclusive environment where every team member can embrace their authentic selves and thrive personally and professionally. Wellbeing is a strategic priority, with programs and initiatives in place to support team members’ mental, social, emotional, physical and financial wellbeing. Children’s is named one of the top in-state employers in Nebraska by Forbes in 2023, and is the only healthcare system in Nebraska to be named a 2023-23 gold recipient of Mental Health America’s Bell Seal Award for Workplace Mental Health. The pediatric mental health crisis is real, and one-third of Nebraska counties lack a behavioral health provider. That's why Children's Nebraska is committed to expanding access to mental healthcare for children and adolescents, most recently with the new Behavioral Health Urgent Care - Kearney facility. Our team stands ready to help Central Nebraska youth up to 22 years of age and their families when experiencing a behavioral or mental health crisis – a critical time when care can't wait. Watch to learn more about the first walk-in clinic of its kind statewide, bringing an innovative model of pediatric mental healthcare to a rural setting. #BelieveInBetter #pediatrics #mentalhealth #behavioralhealth #Kearney #Nebraska

Our 2nd annual Sickle Cell Family Education Day brought together 21 families and 41 generous volunteers for a jam-packed day of connection and education. Hosted by Children’s Nebraska, in partnership with Nebraska Medicine and the Nebraska Chapter of the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation, families affected by sickle cell had the opportunity to hear from Hematology team members and providers, engage in Q&As, network with other families and enjoy interactive activities and games. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us, volunteered and shared their expertise. Thank you to our dedicated Hematology team, who actively supports this patient population through outreach, advocacy and education. Together, we can help raise awareness and improve understanding of this condition. #sicklecell #sicklecelldisease #sicklecellawareness #BelieveinBetter

In 2019, Raanan became just the 28th person worldwide to be diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called CLTC-related disorder, and he now sees a multidisciplinary team of pediatric specialists at Children's Nebraska for his ongoing care needs. The 7-year-old from Missouri Valley, Iowa, shares a special bond with physical therapist Angie Pereira-Burbach from our Rehabilitation Services team. For the last year, Raanan and Angie have addressed balance and strength challenges by learning to ride a bike and other activities in his PT sessions. As Raanan neared the end of his most recent round of therapy, Angie went above and beyond to find him a bike of his very own, custom-modified to his needs and decorated with all his favorite things. Watch to see Raanan receive his new-to-him bike at Children's – a moment long in the making thanks to hard work, an expert team and a whole lot of love and care for a young patient.
