Increasing affordable housing in Massachusetts by advocating for opportunity, expanding access, & developing the field.
About us
Citizens' Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) is the non-profit umbrella organization for affordable housing and community development activities throughout Massachusetts. Established in 1967, CHAPA is the only statewide group which represents all interests in the housing and community development field, including non-profit and for-profit developers, municipal officials, local housing providers and advocates, tenants, homeowners, lenders, consultants, property managers, architects, and others. CHAPA's mission is to encourage the production and preservation of housing that is affordable to low-income families and individuals. CHAPA pursues its goals through: advocacy with local, state, and federal officials; research on affordable housing issues; education and training for organizations and individuals; and coalition- and consensus-building among broad interests in the field.

Massachusetts made a historic investment in our people – now it’s time to celebrate! Join CHAPA at Ned Devine's on September 24th together on the successes within the Affordable Homes Act. We’ll also look toward the bright future ahead and the continued advocacy necessary for the resources, programs, and policies we need to ensure an affordable Massachusetts for all. With this legislation, we’re even better poised to reach 200,000 homes by 2030! That’s why, during this celebration, we’ll also formally launch the Our Massachusetts campaign. Space is limited, so register now! https://lnkd.in/eazHAsrT

Rarely is a problem so solveable. We are pricing out everyone who doesn’t already own a home, watching neighbors move away and businesses close or move elsewhere because of the high cost of living. Our future can be bright and healthy. It starts with saying yes to the homes that people, our communities, and the Commonwealth need to thrive. This story in Wellesley does not have a happy ending. As we enter fall, dozens of MBTA communities will vote on the future. Let’s put ourselves on the path to the vibrant future we all deserve. Join the 72 MBTA communities that have adopted multifamily zoning to allow for the homes we need. Say yes to more homes in your neighborhood. https://lnkd.in/eX9ScNZM
Reduced from 69 units (with about 10 affordable) to two single family homes without even a vote from the select board

Far too often, those who show up to speak at public meetings when a multi-family housing project or MBTA Communities proposal is on the agenda are older, longtime residents who, frankly, already have a place to live. Often missing from that conversation are the voices of younger adults who, due to the difficulty of finding housing in Greater Boston, have or are considering leaving the state. And often, those younger workers tell us, they’d like to be part of the conversation about expanding housing availability. But don’t know where to start, who to talk to, or when to show up. That’s why our chamber, in partnership with CHAPA is launching an effort to engage young professionals in local housing conversations, starting with our virtual Housing Advocacy Workshop Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. Attendees don’t have to live or work in our chamber's communities to attend. In fact, that’s the whole idea: Municipal leaders need to hear from people who wish they could live and work in our cities and towns. If there’s someone in your orbit that might find this of interest please share this link with them.

Rachel Heller, CEO of the Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association, a statewide housing nonprofit, said it’s very encouraging to see housing get more attention at the national level. If Massachusetts has the unenviable distinction of being one of the places with the most severe crisis of housing affordability and supply, she said, we have also been in the lead when it comes to policies aimed at addressing the problem. https://lnkd.in/gAqtPyas #housing #affordablehousing
