Lets talk paint transfer efficiency with the different types of paint guns. Making a change to more efficient tools can have a huge return on investment. Here is a look at what applicators are available on the American coating equipment market and how they rate in transfer efficiency, from least efficient to most efficient: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: (Siphon/gravity/pressure feed.) This is the least efficient process for transferring paint from a container to a finished part or object. Conventional spray equipment is inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. The lack of precision spray control due to high pressure results in significant overspray and poor efficiency. 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 (𝐇𝐕𝐋𝐏): This application process is similar to conventional spray painting but a notch up in efficiency. Because the pressure is lower, it applies higher coating volumes with less overspray and waste. The disadvantage to HVLP application is its inability to cover tight places and irregular shapes. 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬: These mid-efficiency applicators replace air with fluid pressure. Hydraulics allow for high compression that atomizes paint and allows heavier weights to be sprayed per volume compared to air sprayers. Airless applicators do a better job of evenly covering difficult parts but tend to overcoat and compromise transfer efficiency. 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬: You can get a good compromise with higher efficiency by combining air and fluid pressure. Air assist sprayers introduce compressed air into the spray through a nozzle or air cap. The fluid pressure with an air boost allows excellent coverage with reduced loss through overspray or over-coating. 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐠𝐮𝐧𝐬: One of the most efficient paint transfer processes is electrostatic application. This system uses electrically charged paint particles to attract to an alternately charged part surface. The paint particles can actually change direction in midair (even up to 180 degrees) as they are attracted to the surface of the grounded object. This results in extremely high transfer efficiencies with little to no over-spray. 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥: At the top of the paint transfer efficiency scale is a rotational atomizing bell. This application method involves a spinning metal disc flinging energized paint particles towards a grounded surface. Rotary atomizing bell processes are exceptionally efficient in maximizing paint solids by weight and volume. The only drawback is the equipment investment cost. Want to learn more about these different paint finishing technologies? Simply contact C.H. Reed to speak with a Paint Finishing Specialist.

Here is a rather small application story, but a valuable solution for the customer, nonetheless. Oftentimes success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out! One of our Compressed Air Service Technicians, Brian Allison, was at a concrete facility servicing their system and noticed a slipping hazard due to excess water and oil build up on the floor and wall near the equipment. He brought up the simple benefits of an oil/water condensate separator and how it could take care of all the oil and water on the floor, while also allowing them to properly treat the condensate and remove the oil from it before proper disposal. The customer was all for it. As the “before” picture shows, the condensation drain lines coming off the equipment would purge into a bucket, but almost always ended up on the floor and wall, creating a wet and oily mess. With a simple installation of a nano-purification solutions SEP 120 ST Oil-Water Condensate Separator and a Condensate Manifold, we were able to remove the mess off the floor, remove the oil from the condensate, and deposit the condensate into a nearby drain. In the "after" picture, you can see the floors and walls are now dry. Moving forward, this separator will be added to the preventative maintenance schedule and will be serviced on a regular basis. #compressedair #aircompressors #condensateseparator #preventativemaintenance #servicesolutions #chreed #serviceandrepair #manufacturing #aircompressor

We were honored to be showcased with Quincy Compressor and Chicago Pneumatic Compressors on the number 38 Ford Mustang for Front Row Motorsports this past weekend at Pocono Raceway! Big shoutout to Front Row Motorsports for their tremendous hospitality all weekend long! Unfortunately, a rear brake caliber broke on lap 116 and didn’t allow for Todd Gilliland to make any gains back through the field. Nonetheless, it was an awesome VIP Pit Box experience for our team in attendance, as well as for C.H. Reed altogether. Best of luck to Todd and the Front Row team as they head to Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400 this Sunday! #NASCAR #Frontrowmotorsports #quincycompressor #chicagopneumatic #chreed #NASCARCupSeries #PoconoRaceway #ToddGilliland #StrengthThroughPartnerships #CompressedAir #AirCompressors #PaintFinishing #ServiceSolutions
