US Senator Tim Kaine recently recognized the organization's incredible commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment. 👏 Founded in 2023 at the request of Centra College students, this organization has been making strides with numerous events and projects that celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion among nursing students. We're so proud of all their hard work and dedication!

We are thrilled to announce that Carrie White has been promoted to Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Bedford Memorial Hospital (BMH)! 🎉 Carrie has been an invaluable part of the Centra team for 17 years, bringing a wealth of experience in Emergency and Surgical Services. Her background includes managing the Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital Surgery Center, Pre-Surgery Center, and Centra Lynchburg General Hospital (LGH) Surgicare and providing interim leadership over the LGH OR and LGH PACU. Additionally, she served as the system’s Nursing Business Strategist before her role as Associate Chief Nursing Officer at BMH. As CNO, Carrie will oversee patient care programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring adherence to evidence-based nursing standards and state practice regulations. Her role also fosters strong relationships with the hospital’s governing body, administrative team, physicians, department managers and other stakeholders. She will be instrumental in developing and evaluating both long-term and short-term goals for nursing while directing and facilitating process improvements to enhance patient care and outcomes. Congratulations, Carrie, on this well-deserved promotion! We look forward to your continued leadership and the positive impact you will make at Bedford Memorial Hospital.

Learn about John DeLong's Journey into healthcare! When John made the leap from construction to healthcare facilities management, he experienced a clear cultural and mindset shift that came with the transition. When working on a construction site, you get to experience the gratification of seeing daily progress made on a project from the day it begins to the day it is finished. In contrast, facilities management never has an end. John explained, “in this role, you don’t see change to the building itself, but you do know that the building is functioning as it should be.” #Centrahealth

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month! National Minority Donor Awareness Month is a collaborative initiative of the National Multicultural Action Group (NMAG) for Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donation. The goal is to save and improve the quality of life of diverse communities by promoting a positive culture around organ, eye, and tissue donation. Currently, ethnic minorities are in urgent need of more organ, eye, and tissue donors. They make up about 60% of the national organ transplant waiting list but only about 30% of actual donors. Transplants can be successful regardless of the ethnicity of the donor and recipient. However, there may be a greater chance of longer-term survival if the donor and recipient are closely matched in terms of their shared genetic background. #Donatelife #organdonation
