A campaign dedicated to acknowledging and honouring women who have made substantial, hands-on contributions to their communities through civic engagement and participatory planning, empowering their communities and creating a lasting impact for future generations. We see their influence as not only inspiring but also capable of extending to other communities. Just as Jane Jacobs is globally recognized for her important achievements, we recognize that there is a ‘Jane Jacobs’ in every country, city, village, or tribe. These women have left an indelible mark on people’s lives, shaping the way their communities interact with their surroundings. In an effort to decolonize the narrative, our aim is to bring these leaders to the fore. Amman Workshop - Day 2 The second and last day of the workshop featured more participants sharing their impactful community-led projects from across the region. Shining examples and models from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen were all represented. It has been a truly inspiring experience to have such a diverse group in one room. The level of engagement with the communities extended beyond the professional daily job and became a purpose and calling.   A huge thanks to the Regional Climate and Energy Project MENA at Friedrich Ebert Stiftung MENA and to Dina Kisbi whose unwavering support made this initiative possible. Amman Workshop - Day 1 We had a fruitful start to our workshop with many participants sharing their impactful community-led projects from across the region. They shared multiple success stories and candidly addressed common challenges including institutional, financial and cultural ones. In addition, they introduced creative solutions, particularly in stakeholder engagement through participatory design, tailored to each unique context. As the day progressed, we engaged in discussions that fostered knowledge sharing and experience exchange. Amir chimed in with insightful musings about participatory planning, actively involving participants in mapping their contributions along the participatory ladder. He also engaged the participants in lively debates about various types of community engagement, ranging from city-level initiatives to village efforts and one-on-one interactions in specific action areas. Meanwhile, Yasmine skillfully connected the different themes discussed throughout the day, offering valuable reflections that enriched our understanding of effective community engagement strategies. ورشة العمل في عمان - اليوم الأول كانت بداية ورشة العمل مثمرة بمشاركة العديد من المشتركات مشاريعهن التي لها عظيم الاثر في المجتمع من مختلف أنحاء المنطقة حيث تبادلن قصص النجاح وتناولن بكل موضوعية وصدق كافة التحديدات سواء تحديات مؤسسية او مالية او ثقافية. كما اقترحن حلولاً إبداعية لمشاركة أصحاب المصلحة من خلال التصميم التشاركي، المصمم خصيصًا لكل سياق. وفي نهاية اليوم، اندمجنا في مناقشات عززت تبادل المعرفة والخبرات شارك فيها أمير بتأملات حول التخطيط التشاركي كما اشرك الجميع في نسج مساهماتهن على خارطة المشاركة من خلال مناقشات حيوية حول مختلف أنواع المشاركة المجتمعية، بدءًا من المبادرات على مستوى المدينة إلى الجهود القروية والتفاعلات الفردية. وعلي صعيد آخر، ربطت ياسمين بمهارة بين المواضيع المختلفة التي تمت مناقشتها على مدار اليوم، و قدمت استنتاجات قيمة آثرت فهمنا لاستراتيجيات المشاركة المجتمعية الفعالة. #CelebrateYourLocalJaneJacobs

Our Jury has been hard at work over the past weeks reviewing the applications and learning about female leadership across the MENA region. It was exciting and fascinating to learn about the work these women do and how they have been able to create change in various contexts from historical urban areas to informal settlements, from rural villages to refugee camps. The Jury’s assessment is based on four main criteria: ·        Engagement with the local community ·        Contribution to community building projects ·        Effect on the community ·        Impact on people’s lives All applications were of high quality which stimulated a very fruitful dialogue. Stay tuned for further updates!   لقد عملت لجنة التحكيم بجد على مدار الأسابيع الماضية في مراجعة الطلبات والتعرف على القيادات النسائية في جميع أنحاء منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا. لقد كان من الرائع و المثير للاهتمام التعرف على العمل الذي تقوم به هؤلاء النساء وكيف تمكنوا من إحداث التغيير في سياقات مختلفة منها المناطق الحضرية التاريخية إلى المستوطنات غير الرسمية، ومن القرى الريفية إلى مخيمات اللاجئين. يعتمد تقييم لجنة التحكيم على أربعة معايير رئيسية: • المشاركة مع المجتمع المحلي • المساهمة في مشاريع بناء المجتمع • التأثير على المجتمع • التأثير على حياة الناس كانت جميع الطلبات عالية الجودة مما حفز حوارًا مثمرًا للغاية. ترقبوا المزيد من التحديثات قريبا!
