If you or a co-worker is extroverted, personable and equipped with other soft skills but low on technical experience, you could be what is known as a "personality hire." These employees are often charismatic and have stellar interpersonal skills, which can go a long way in the workplace. Indeed, so-called personality hires serve a valuable purpose: They boost morale, cheer on coworkers, and can seal deals with clients. Almost half of workers — 48% — consider themselves a personality hire, according to a recent survey from career site Monster. Of those, 85% say they bring with them the ability to strengthen relationships with clients, customers and coworkers. "Personality hires refer to employees that were hired for their personality. Think about their charisma and their ability to cheer the team on," said Vicki Salemi, career expert for Monster. "If it were baseball, they'd be on the top step of the dugout cheering on the team. They are hired for their approach to work and their attitude."

One California man is showing how small words can make a huge impact in people's daily lives. Every school morning for years, Dick Kazan has been standing on the street in Palos Verdes Estates offering something nice to say. He wishes for everyone — particularly children on their way to school — to have a good day. "Everybody, no exceptions, wants to feel important. I want them to feel important," the 79-year-old said. "I want them to feel beautiful. I want them to feel needed. And I want them to feel safe."

Did you get a job offer that sounds too good to be true? If so, it's probably an attempt by a scammer to rip you off. Incidences of job scams skyrocketed 118% in 2023 compared with a year earlier, according to a new report from the Identity Theft Resource Center - Nonprofit (ITRC). And they're looking more real than ever, thanks to artificial intelligence which has allowed criminals to create job postings that appear more legitimate, and target greater numbers of victims, according to Eva Casey-Velasquez, President and CEO of ITRC. "They are putting together information to make postings look much more sophisticated," Velasquez told CBS MoneyWatch.
