Together we can do more than any of us alone.
About us
Empowering the San Diego business community to collaborate, face-to-face, about social impact initiatives that make San Diego a better place to live, work, and play. Over the past few decades we have left the issues of improving our communities mostly up to the government and the non-profit sector. The traditional business community has typically been a funder and participated on nonprofit boards. That is no longer good enough. It is time for business leaders to become more active in social impact initiatives. It is time for them to take some of their time and energy and focus it on making San Diego a better place to live, work and play. The next generation of workers are demanding this and our communities need it. But it is not as easy as it should be: there are many disparate organizations making progress, but the business community doesn’t have a cohesive picture. The Cause San Diego's Cause Conference will shine a light on the people and organizations that are driving change. This is a single day and place that will bring together business leaders (both for-profit and nonprofit), gov’t, education, impact investors, philanthropists, and more to learn about what others are doing and create opportunities for collaboration. This is the third year the conference is focused on the broader business community and we look forward to making our 26th Annual Cause Conference THE place to be for Social Impact in the years to come.

Did you know over 1,000 people were displaced from their homes after the January 2024 San Diego floods? Many of these individuals and families are still trying to find stable housing, while several impacted businesses are seeking new buildings. At our 2024 Cause Conference we will explore what occurred in January, who was impacted the hardest, how business, foundations, nonprofit charities and others worked together to provide aide and what improvements need to be made to make our communities more resilient in the future. Breakout Session Sneak Peek: Session Title: Community in Action: San Diego Flood Response – Community in partnership with Philanthropy Panel Moderator: Louie Nguyen, CFA, Chief Investment Officer, Mission Driven Finance® Panelists: - Pamela Gray Payton, MSEL, Chief Impact & Partnerships Officer, San Diego Foundation - Anna Arancibia, CEO, Jackie Robinson Family YMCA - armon harvey, Founder & CEO, The Harvey Family Foundation - Kazeem Omidiji, Community Relations Director, San Diego Gas & Electric Session Overview: On January 22, 2024, San Diego County experienced a 1,000-year flood. Some of the most acute flooding and damage occurred in communities in National City, Spring Valley and southeastern San Diego, including Mountain View, Southcrest, Logan Heights and Encanto, leaving neighbors and residents without livable homes, clothing, food or transportation. In response to the crisis, San Diego Foundation (SDF) launched the San Diego Flood Response Fund to rapidly deploy flexible resources into the community and support organizations responding to the unprecedented flooding. Session Takeaways: Learn how community-based nonprofits quickly mobilized to respond to the urgent needs of impacted communities, and how philanthropy provided life-saving financial support. And, get an update on the 700+ plus households that remain unhoused today, nine months after the storm. #causesandiego #causeconference #SDfloods #communitycollaboration #disasterresponse #floods #sandiego #Buildingresilientcommunities Eugene “Mitch” Mitchell JPMorganChase Adriana "Adri" Brunner TCWGlobal Debbie Smith 365 Connect Signature Analytics Jason Kruger Peter Heald Drew Schlosberg The San Diego Union-Tribune San Diego Business Journal Team Rubicon American Red Cross The City of San Diego Larry Kesslin Bob Dalton James Floros Laura Hall Jeff Blanton Colette Conover, MBA Neville Billimoria
