It's useful to see a new perspective on the consulting industry from the people who really matter - the clients. While they often don't want to share their own personal experiences, this study highlights how they perceive traditional firms today. The article below highlights a study that surveyed over 700 executives and found that when hiring McKinsey / BCG / Bain 84% of the time they were 'no help at all' and 3% of the time got in the way of the work. This isn't surprising. These firms have incredibly talented people who are excellent at large strategy engagements, but they're increasingly getting taking on implementation work. Directors and VPs at companies don't want solutions from people who haven't actually been in their seat, and firms aren't positioned to provide custom-solutions that require an understanding of how the company ticks. What does it lead to? Cookie cutter solutions that don't take into account the nuances of the client and an organization that doesn't feel set up to take the work and run with it. That's why we continue to hear clients are looking for a new way, and we believe Consulting 2.0 is it! And big thanks to Karen Thomas-Bland for sharing the article!!!

By now, this isn't a surprising statistic to hear. Traditional firms haven't evolved their model to fit what most executives are looking for today -- the operating experience from someone who's stood in their shoes before. Traditional firms have really smart advisors, but lack operators. That's one reason why so many talented former consultants with operating experience choose to become independent consultants and get on Catalant, to find a mutual fit with clients who need their precise expertise. Clients love being able to use Catalant to find the right person, at the right time, who's solved their specific problem before.

Consulting firms, agencies, and independent consultants face industry disruption. Risks exist, but so do opportunities. Here's my latest article in Inc. Magazine that outlines key trends, challenges, and opportunities facing consulting in the future. Consulting is ripe for disruption due to five factors inherent with today's old models: 1. Labor-intensive 2. Time-based business model 3. High margins 4. Time-bound value 5. Knowledge commoditization Converging trends are driving this disruption, but the flip side of disruption are opportunities to leverage these for innovation: 1. The rise of AI and automation 2. Digital transformation as a service 3. The gig economy and freelance consultants 4. Client expectations and value delivery In the article I also reference platforms that can be leveraged to scale new models including Upwork, Talmix, and Umbrex and Catalant Technologies. #consulting #managementconsulting #businessconsulting #consultants https://lnkd.in/gxh-pTSM

Recent economic turmoil poses more uncertainty for companies and freelancers alike. Jon Younger PhD sat down with freelance platform CEOs to get their perspectives on the current enivorment's impact on clients and talent around the world. Patrick Petitti, Catalant CEO, shared what we're seeing: "We’ve clearly entered a period where corporate leaders put greater emphasis on highly effective operations and execution relative to less ROI-driven growth. This pushes companies to seek real expertise and operational experience rather than teams of smart but relatively inexperienced young consultants. At Catalant our Clients (1B+ revenue Corporates and PE-backed companies) partner with us to build non-traditional consulting teams incorporating experienced professionals from top firms and former operating leaders. This drives better execution and much higher ROI on consulting spend and leaves companies better equipped to execute effectively.” Read more perspectives here: https://lnkd.in/edQnJ-6z
