Cat 5 Music is hiring!!! We are looking for individuals who are passionate about the music industry to join our staff team. Cat 5 Music is the student-run music marketing enterprise of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music UM. Cat 5 Music provides opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in the music business with a focus on marketing and placement. We represent a diverse set of talented songwriters. We had an incredible experience working with Breakthrough Miami! Together with our very own UM's Music Industry Association and 'Cane Records, we had the opportunity to provide an educational experience to local youth. We discussed a variety of areas of the industry, including records, publishing, and marketing, and ran a mock pitching session. It was great seeing so many high schoolers show interest in the music business and how they relate to it with the artists they love.

We've had an incredible year of growth and success here at Cat5 Music, and we're excited to continue our journey by hiring Directors for the 2024-2025 academic year! We had the pleasure of hosting our annual spring songwriter showcase this month, with sets from Cat 5 songwriters Jasmine Harris, Jake Wild, Alexandria Carrington, Nuclear Monkey (Nathan Neuwirth), and Quinn Olson. I'm super excited to announce that I've been selected as one of 10 new songwriters at the University of Miami's Cat5 Music program! Partnering with the Cat 5 Music program is a huge step for me as a small (yet growing!) artist. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with other talented and experienced musicians to grow my platform reach new listeners with my music. As a publishing and PR organization, Cat 5 Music can help me to tap into new listener segments through creative advertising, coordinating musical collaborations, and matching me with potential performance venues. As we begin a new year, we are reflecting on some of the events we organized at Cat5 Music last spring! Our team organized a workshop on music royalties, lead by Prof. John Redmond that explained how to recover mechanical royalties from the The Mechanical Licensing Collective as well as performance royalties from PROs and digital performance royalties from SoundExchange. Samantha Kopec and Alexandra Berman lead a social media marketing workshop for songwriters, entitled Composing Content, that focused on short-form video strategy and summarized the algorithms of platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube. This encouraged discussion about how an online audience can influence songwriters, and in groups, we brainstormed personalized content ideas for upcoming releases. We ended the year with a spring songwriter showcase at United Wesley featuring Aden LaLonde, Ella Hartman, Isaac Hentel, and Jake Wild performing their original songs. We’re looking forward to continuing this work throughout the 2023-24 year! 🙌
