Do you know how to spot key signs that a loved one may be experiencing suicidal ideation? According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), paying attention to what people are saying, feeling, and doing is important to identify suicidal thoughts and behaviors. See the graphic below for examples of sayings, feelings, and behaviors that can indicate risk for suicide. CASES also offers FREE onsite and virtual Mental Health First Aid training to community organizations and individuals across New York City. These trainings support healthcare workers, educators, first responders, and anyone eager to learn how to support someone struggling with mental illness. Interested? Email [email protected]. September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Even though people of all ages and backgrounds can experience suicidal thoughts, stigma surrounding this topic often makes it difficult to talk about. As one of NYC's leading providers of mental health treatment services for court-involved New Yorkers, it's imperative that we raise awareness about risk and protective factors for suicide, signs someone may be experiencing suicidal ideation, and resources for support. Are you or a loved one struggling with thoughts of suicide or experiencing a mental health crisis? Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. #AlternativesToIncarceration #CloseRikers #CommunitiesNotCages #EndMassIncarceration #MentalHealthMatters #SuicidePreventionMonth #SupportiveHousing #TreatmentNotJail

Thousands of imprisoned New Yorkers deserve a #SecondLook "The state’s Second Look legislation would allow judges to weigh factors like victim impact statements, age, whether the prisoners were penalized for bringing their cases to trial (instead of accepting a plea bargain) and participation in rehabilitation programming when considering sentence reductions." #ParoleJustice #AlternativesToIncarceration
