This Tuesday, we had the privilege of gathering with cabinet members and supporters of the Giving Hope campaign to celebrate milestones made possible thanks to the generosity of our community. Atrium Health Foundation President Armando Chardiet and campaign co-chairs, Pat Rodgers and Tom Finke, highlighted the tremendous philanthropic commitments since the campaign launched in 2021. More than halfway to our $500 million campaign goal, Foundation supporters have contributed millions of dollars towards programs, plus: $34 million to ensure health equity; $69 million for medical education; $50 million for clinical research; and $42 million to help shape our state-of-the-art facilities. Armando emphasized that no matter the size of the gifts we’ve received, each one has helped us get to where we are today. Pat and Tom spoke about the campaign’s future and the many exciting giving opportunities that are still available, including the bed tower on our main campus; the new Lake Norman hospital in Cornelius; and The Pearl innovation district and Wake Forest School of Medicine nearing completion in the heart of the Queen City. Greg Olsen has teamed up with leaders at Showmars to present a $92,000 donation from The HEARTest Yard + Showmars 5K presented by LifeShare Carolinas. This generous gift will enhance programs at Atrium Health Levine Children's HEARTest Yard Congenital Heart Center, helping kids like Samuel thrive. We are deeply grateful to the Olsen family and Showmars for championing pediatric heart care for over 12 years, contributing to Levine Children’s ranking among the best in the nation for pediatric cardiology and heart surgery! Patients in the greater Charlotte area will be able to experience state-of-the art care at Atrium Health’s newest facility that is under construction on its campus, Carolinas Medical Center. In July 2023, groundbreaking ceremonies were held, and construction underway. When completed, the new, 1.1-million-square-foot facility will be 12 stories tall. The construction of this facility will take 10,000 pieces of steel, many powerful cranes and machines and the hard work of over 1,000 men and women. We are looking forward to opening the building and expanding the care we provide #ForAll in 2027!

Over the past 14 years, The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research has donated more than $2 million to sarcoma research at Atrium Health Levine Cancer and Atrium Health Levine Children's in Charlotte. Now the organization is strengthening patient support and awareness through a new program: Growing Hope Through Art. The initiative was launched at Levine Cancer Institute with the installation of "Seasons of Life," an original work of art created by Jake Pfeifer of Hot Glass Alley and commissioned by the Paula Takacs Foundation. The glass art now adorns the main corridors connecting Levine Cancer Institute’s facilities on the midtown campus of Atrium Health. Learn more about the program: bit.ly/3WHKrk6

Meet Sprout, a 4-year-old Labrador retriever and full-time facility dog who, in his first year at Atrium Health Levine Children's in Charlotte, has logged over 3,350 encounters with patients and teammates. His work is made possible by a $150,000 grant from Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation's Dogs for Joy program. Like doctors and nurses, Sprout is a core member of a child's treatment team, helping them achieve their clinical goals. A typical day may include assisting rehab patients with their physical therapy exercises, leading programs like "Arts & Barks" with Arts For Life, and visiting patients inside Seacrest Studios. Sprout is the first dog to work directly with cancer patients at Levine Children's Torrey Hemby Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders – a milestone made possible by the Dogs for Joy grant, which helped purchase proper sanitization materials to keep kids in the clinic safe. "This grant has allowed patients to find their safe space with Sprout," said Rachel Ellis, AVP of foundation relations/grants at Atrium Health Foundation. "Before surgeries, kids will ask to spend time with him. He has fostered a kind and inclusive space for so many, which is all due to the generosity of Dunkin'." Read more: bit.ly/3WBUjfj
