We are leading people and collaborating with one another during a moment that may be difficult and uncertain for many. Team members may be anxious and distracted, a common response to unpredictability. Women and people of color may be having different experiences rooted in their intersectional identities. All leaders can meet this moment with empathy, care, and humanity to support their teams and their organizations. Resources: ➡️ https://ow.ly/joYn50U1x76

Career development tip of the week: Struggling to fit career development into your busy schedule? Block off a regular spot in your calendar and use it for career development. As a career development expert, I spend all my time helping other's careers. So when do I focus on my own? Early in my career, I struggled with this. I always prioritized helping other people over helping myself. I felt like my calendar was always full. When would I get to focus on myself? Finally, I started blocking time in my calendar to dedicate to my own career development. For me, this was every other Friday for about 1 hour. During that hour I'd take an e-Learning, meet with a mentor, or read some articles. And the best part: people scheduled around it. So I always had this time to myself. Try it out for yourself! #careerdevelopment #learninganddevelopment #learning #continuouslearning

Been ghosted before? 👻😱 So have we! Sometimes, it's hard to remember that there's people on either side of the applicant tracking system. It's hard to find the right roles, stand out amongst all those candidates, and negotiate a compensation package you deserve. That's where a career coach can help. ❤️

Job seekers come across many horrors, and one of them is being ghosted. 👻😱 I've been a recruiter in the past, so I have a lot of empathy for them. And, as shameful as I am to say this, I, too, have ghosted a candidate or two. After reviewing hundreds of applications and conducting dozens of screening and interviews, I didn't always prioritize a personalized follow up. And instead, chose to send the dreaded auto responses that influenced my costume. As an experienced job seeker, karma certainly found me, because I have been ghosted by many recruiters. I recognize and empathize with them, recruiting is not an easy career. Nonetheless, it still hurt me, as a candidate, to build a relationship with someone, only to get a cold auto response. So, this Halloween, I decided to take that experience and shed light and poke fun at it a little. Each email on my costume was directly pulled from job rejection emails I've had in the past. Even career coaches get rejections - I have TONS of rejections. But this costume reminded me that all these are, are emails. They're not reflections of my value. They're not reflections of my worth. Instead, they're a bunch of people who passed on a great candidate. 😉 Thanks to Eva Gay for joining me at Exton Region Chamber of Commerce for this murder mystery event! Happy Halloween everyone!

Networking is such an icky word. Instead, I choose to lean into it from genuine curiosity. When I meet with someone, I am genuinely curious about something. I'm often wondering: - How are they doing? - What's going on in their life? - How is work? - Do they have any challenges I can help with? - Do they have an advice for me? - What's their career path? Their story? - What are some biggest successes they had recently? - Is there anyone I can connect them to? And all these questions are agnostic, regardless of the reason we are meeting. When you lead with genuine curiosity, you build a network that is authentic to you. #careerdevelopment #careercoaching #careeradvice #jobsearching #jobhunting #hiring

Last year I was laid off along with a few thousand other people. I decided to create a group chat for several of us to join and support one another. One of them decided not to join. I was perplexed and worried. I didn't want them to be alone during this crazy time. The rest of us were panicked, angry, and exhausted - but at least we had each other. I could only imagine how this one person would feel navigating it all alone. I reached out to them, asking why they declined the group invite and if they were ok. "Never better," they responded. I was shook. How in the world could this be the high point of their career?! "This isn't my first time being laid off. The last time I was laid off, I got a job I would have never applied to, traveling the world. This time, I'm going to start a new adventure." Their positive outlook stuck with me. It was very hard for me to look at my layoff - especially my first layoff - as a good thing. But, with every setback comes a comeback. You create each comeback, just as my colleague did, just as I did. #careerdevelopment #careercoaching #careeradvice #jobsearching #jobhunting #hiring
