Today we kicked off September #RailSafetyMonth with a special safety train ride and press event between Oakland and Hayward stations. Together, Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority, California Operation Lifesaver, Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), Amtrak, and other rail safety partners worked to raise awareness about rail safety. City staff participated in this morning’s activities and railroad and local law enforcement issued warnings and citations to motorists and pedestrians who failed to follow traffic signs and signals at railroad crossings. Special mentions: City of Oakland, City of San Leandro, City of Hayward, City of Berkeley, California Highway Patrol, Oakland Police Department, San Leandro Police Department, California Public Utilities Commission, Oakland Department of Transportation (OakDOT), and Caltrans for being in attendance. And thank you to Nancy Sheehan-McCulloch from CAOL, Peggy Ygbuhay of UPRR, Doug Calcagno from Amtrak PD, our Board Chairman, Robert Raburn for working with us to make this a very engaging event!

Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA), California Operation Lifesaver (CAOL), Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), Amtrak, and other rail partners launched September Rail Safety Month with a special safety train event in Oakland today.
