About us
CAPI USA, originally called The Centre for Asian and Pacific Islanders was founded in 1982 by a coalition of church groups helping refugees arriving from Southeast Asia in the aftermath of the Vietnam conflict. Since then our services have expanded towards refugees and immigrants arriving from East Africa, Nepal, Burma, and many other countries around the world. We exist to guide refugees and immigrants in their journey toward self-determination and social equality with assistance from a diverse, multi-lingual and caring staff committed to holistic, affirming services to help people of all nationalities adapt, lead successful and productive lives, and give back to our Twin Cities regional community.

Last Saturday, CAPI headed out with our partners, the Coalition of Asian American Leaders - CAAL and the Asian American Organizing Project, to connect with the AAPI community. We knocked on 232 doors and spoke with 177 individuals to give them info on registering to #vote and to ensure that all eligible voters know the importance of using their voices.

Thankful to be one of the recipients of this grant to increase access to equitable healthcare!
We’re excited to announce more than $4M in grant funding to 18 Minnesota nonprofit organizations, as part of our focus on increasing healthcare coverage across Minnesota, supporting community solutions to accessing equitable care and increasing awareness about communities most impacted by a lack of healthcare access. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eQUcMaEN Nine organizations were awarded grants through the Foundation’s recent Access to Equitable Healthcare Coverage funding opportunity, including AFRICAN COMMUNITY SENIOR SERVICES, CAPI USA - Immigrant Opportunity Center, CLUES, Face to Face Health & Counseling, HealthFinders Collaborative, NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, Portico Healthnet, and United Community Action Partnership, Inc. Three organizations – CARE Clinic, Native American Community Clinic and NORTHWEST INDIAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CENTER NWICDC – were also awarded Healthy Generations grants to improve access to care and coverage. The Healthy Generations designation represents grants to organizations that are uniquely positioned to work toward shared racial and health equity goals across generations and issue areas, as well as deepen advocacy work and advance systems change. Six organizations were also awarded grants to increase access to oral healthcare, advance birth equity, and provide infrastructure support to advance equitable care and coverage, including Apple Tree Dental, Children's Dental Services, African American Babies Coalition, Roots Community Birth Center, Minnesota Navigator Coalition, and University of Minnesota’s State Health Access Data Assistance Center (SHADAC).

Give to the Max Day, Minnesota's day of generosity is coming up on Nov. 21st, but before we hit that mark you can join us for a giving event on Nov. 19th at La Doña Cervecería from 8 pm - 10 pm. Gather a group of friends to test your knowledge with Trivia Mafia, and contribute to the greater good by purchasing drinks and tacos. A portion of the sales will come back to CAPI to support our work with immigrant and refugee communities!

Huge thanks to General Mills and HandsOn Twin Cities for coordinating this event! This support means so much to our food shelves and our communities!
We extend our gratitude to General Mills volunteers who contributed their time to support hunger relief in the Twin Cities as part of their 3rd annual World Food Day campaign. Their contributions have made a big impact, ensuring access to nutritious food for many in our community. At The Good Acre, volunteers assembled over 670 community-supported agriculture (CSA) boxes, giving individuals access to a variety of healthy, seasonal produce from local, culturally diverse farmers. At Second Harvest Heartland, volunteers sorted through 14,150 pounds of food and assembled 467 boxes for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), which supports low-income seniors by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods. Additionally, volunteers at General Mills Headquarters created 400 cultural spice kits for NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center and CAPI USA - Immigrant Opportunity Center, helping these food shelves meet growing demand for essential kitchen staples. Thank you to General Mills and volunteers for taking action to address hunger both locally and globally, and partnering with local nonprofit organizations to make a significant impact in our community. #WorldFoodDay
