New York’s Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) and Cannabis Control Board (CCB) just released their three-year implementation report on the state’s adult-use cannabis reforms. The report highlights key industry insights, showing 1,342 adult-use cannabis licenses issued, with over 200 retailers and 67% of consumers buying from legal sources. In 2023 alone, the state’s cannabis market generated $653.9 million in revenue. A major win for equity: 54.7% of licenses went to applicants eligible for the social equity program—surpassing the 50% goal. However, only around 20 operators have tapped into the Cannabis Social Equity Investment Fund so far. The report is a must-read for a closer look at New York’s cannabis landscape, its progress, and areas for improvement. #cannabisIndustry #socialequity #newyorkcannabis

In the cannabis industry, progress often feels like reinventing the wheel due to federal prohibition, which limits access to traditional tools like banks and technology. However, by learning from more established industries, the cannabis sector can adopt best practices that drive operational efficiency, reduce waste, and foster growth. "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants," said Sir Isaac Newton. As the industry evolves, these lessons will be crucial to overcoming increasingly complex challenges. Governor Gavin Newsom has officially signed a bill allowing cannabis cafes to serve food and drinks, while also hosting live performances! This groundbreaking change, championed by Assemblymember Matt Haney, comes just a day after the governor vetoed a separate bill that would have let small cannabis growers sell directly to consumers. Last year, Newsom raised concerns about cannabis lounges affecting smoke-free workplace policies. To address this, the new law includes safety measures like requiring businesses to assess their working environments and posting health warnings. Local governments can also set ventilation and filtration standards to ensure a safe space for everyone. #cannabisnews #californiacannabis #cannabiscafe

In a recent interview on the All the Smoke Productions podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Harris stated, “I just feel strongly, people should not be going to jail for smoking weed.” She emphasized the historical impact of marijuana-related arrests, saying, “We need to legalize it and stop criminalizing this behavior.” Could this be a turning point for federal cannabis reform? #cannabislegalization #cannabis #kamalaharris #cannabisnews

Amid economic uncertainty, luxury cannabis products are still thriving, drawing in consumers who crave premium, exclusive experiences. “Some consumers seek the best in every category – cannabis included,” says Dana Mason, VP of Brand Marketing at Cresco Labs, home to high-end brands like Mindy’s Edibles and FloraCal. “There are those who value quality and are willing to pay for it.” “You can’t offer a premium product at a value price,” says Nick Ortega, CEO of Claybourne Co. “That would strip away what makes it premium.” #luxurycannabis #cannabisindustry #cannabisnews
