This #DTSC study estimates #cosmetics contribute over 1,000 lbs per year of #ForeverChemicals to #California's wastewater. Please join us in welcoming the new Director of the #California Dept. of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), Katherine M. Butler, MPH! Butler is a seasoned leader with extensive experience in #PublicHealth & #EnvironmentalJustice. She upholds her commitment to strong enforcement (congressionally recognized last year), transparent government & collaborative solutions for the department’s decision-making to protect California’s environment & communities. For nearly 2️⃣ years, she served as Deputy Director of the Hazardous Waste Management Program here at #DTSC. In that role, her she fostered strong partnerships between stakeholders & created a solution-oriented culture that led to action on several of the most complex long-standing permitting decisions facing the department. Prior to joining DTSC, Butler was the Senior Health Deputy in the Office of LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn, where she established a groundbreaking environmental justice & #ClimateHealth program to improve health outcomes in pollution-burdened areas of Los Angeles.
