We're loving this release from the United Airlines Newsroom highlighting new in-flight wine offerings featuring aluminum cans (a sustainable packaging option) and wines produced by women-owned brands adhering to sustainability practices set forth in the SIP Certified and Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing programs. "This transition to aluminum canned wine will reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles by an estimated 4.7 million bottles per year. Aluminum is nearly infinitely recyclable and supports United's commitment to sustainability at all altitudes, including recycling onboard its aircraft." 👏🏽👏🏽 https://lnkd.in/gfC6esJg Photo: United Airlines Newsroom

View the newly released 2023 Certification Report and Appendix, an annual benchmark of the major accomplishments of Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing (CCSW) and certified vineyards and wineries at the link below. The report notes that 45% of California’s 610,000 winegrape acres are CCSW certified and that 90% of the 255 million statewide cases of wine are made in CCSW wineries. Both are significant increases from 2022. https://lnkd.in/gCbJwjAe

We know sustainability in wine is important, but how can we communicate it better? 🍷📱 This was one of the questions asked at the 2024 US Sustainable Winegrowing Summit, where FirstPour presented the social media perspective, as reported by Decanter. “Richard Morley, the director of UK-based marketing agency FirstPour, said: ‘Wine hashtags on social media give us a litmus test of general interest levels," writes Cassandra Charlick. "#wine has 77 million posts, #organicwine has 929k , #biodynamicwine has 272k and #sustainablewine sits at 64.9k. These stats show us that organic wine is established and understood as it has got its message right. The main challenge in communicating sustainable winemaking is that sustainability is a broad and wide-ranging concept. It’s hard for consumers to visualise what it means and why it matters to them.’” Thank you to California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance for giving us the opportunity to speak at this year's summit, and to our fellow speakers, Sandy Skees, Emily Ely, Ann Wallace, and Porter Novelli, for their thought-provoking insights and expertise.
