Oct. 13 is the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. At the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation and the California Strategic Growth Council we are committed to supporting California’s communities in their goals to mitigate #climatechange impacts. LCI’s Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program (ICARP) is comprised of three grant programs focusing on addressing California’s #ClimateResilience goals and mitigating #extremeheat impacts on the local, regional, and tribal levels. 🇺🇸Day 3 of the Governor’s Military Council has wrapped up in the City and County of San Francisco today, and featured several #FleetWeekSF events! LCI Director, Samuel Assefa and the LCI Director of Military Affairs, Eileen Sánchez van Zweeden joined Vice Admiral USCG (Ret) Jody Breckenridge, and other senior military members of the US Navy , U.S. Coast Guard, and United States Marine Corps – along with other members of federal, state, and local agencies to experience various events and celebrations that Fleet Week brings to the #BayArea. LCI’s Military Affairs Team works closely with all branches of the military on areas of mutual concern and priority including #LandUse planning, regulatory activities by state agencies, and statewide #energy policies. Today concludes the three-day, Quarter 4 meeting of the Council, where military partners came together to discuss ways to improve communication and encourage #collaboration between local governments and the U.S. military on land use planning and development issues in California.

⭐ It’s Day 2 in the City and County of San Francisco for a meeting of the Governor’s Military Council! Today’s activities include a Senior Leaders Seminar, featuring opening remarks from the Honorable Carlos Del Toro, Secretary of the US Navy, and tour of the USCGC Bertholf! LCI’s Director, Samuel Assefa and the LCI Director of Military Affairs, Eileen Sánchez van Zweeden are there to collaborate with other military partners and discuss ways to improve communication and encourage collaboration between local governments and the U.S. military on installation resilience, land use planning and development issues in California.   🚢 🛩 This week’s convening coincides with #FleetWeekSF, which is held each year between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Fleet Week is a way to foster connections between the military and the civilian population and to recognize the role of the armed forces in national defense and disaster response. It also draws thousands of visitors and is a major tourism event for the city! Check back tomorrow, as Dir. Assefa and Sánchez van Zweeden share updates from Fleet Week! 

🏔 Today our staff collaborated with other state agencies in the City of South Lake Tahoe for a meeting of the California Wildfire & Forest Resilience Task Force! The Task Force and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) discussed several new tools that will revolutionize how California tracks and communicates progress toward improving #wildfire and landscape #resilience, along with the Task Force’s Science Advisory Panel presenting on outcomes of recent projects on wildfire hazard, watershed health, and wildlife habitat. The Task Force is a collaborative effort to align the activities of federal, state, local, public, private and tribal organizations to support programs and projects tailored to the priorities and risks of each region, and bring the best available science to forest management and community protection efforts. 🤝 The Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation is proud to support and elevate Task Force work!

⭐ Did you know, California is home to more than 30 federal military installations? And that those installations are vital to our national security? The Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation’s (LCI) Military Affairs Team works closely with all branches of the military on areas of mutual concern and priority including #LandUse planning, regulatory activities by state agencies, and statewide #energy policies. This week, LCI’s Director, Samuel Assefa and the LCI Program Director of California Advanced Supply Chain Analysis & Diversification Effort (CASCADE), Eileen Sánchez van Zweeden are in the City and County of San Francisco for the Governor’s Military Council - Quarter 4 Business Meeting. There, they will collaborate with other military partners and discuss ways to improve communication and encourage collaboration between local governments and the U.S. military on land use planning and development issues in California.  #CaliforniaForAll

🌐This year’s United Nations’ #WorldHabitatDay theme is “Engaging Youth to Create a Better Urban Future.” This theme falls in line with GO-LCI's value that we must uplift the youth in our communities by encouraging participation in civil engagement and helping today’s youth continue to idealize and prepare for what #sustainable cities and communities will look like in the future. The California Youth Empowerment Act (AB-46) has allowed a way for youth to engage directly with policymakers on several key issues pressuring today's youth. Made up of 13 voting commissioners aged 14-25, the Youth Empowerment Commission aims to provide a powerful opportunity to improve the quality of life for California’s youth with direct focus on disadvantaged youth whose voices often go unheard.
