It is our honor to introduce the Byrd Barr Place family to our new CEO Dr. Angela Griffin, Ed.D.! Named after the great Angela Davis, and the daughter of a Black Panther, Dr. Griffin brings decades of nonprofit leadership and racial justice advocacy to this work. The future of Byrd Barr Place is in capable, passionate and creative hands, and we look forward to her vision for this great organization's future.

We do this work out of love for our community. We are proud that in July we were able to provide essential resources through our Energy Assistance Program and The Market. Last month, we fed over 6,000 individuals and offered nearly $345,000 in utility assistance. These numbers represent our commitment to creating an equitable Washington for all people. Today we celebrate #BlackPhilanthropyMonth, a time to celebrate the brilliance and imagination that Black folks bring to philanthropy, this month’s theme is “Afro-Futures in Giving” Black women have been on the cutting edge of breaking down the traditional philanthropic paradigm and imagining new futures for Black communities. This year we are celebrating 60 years of community service in action. Each month we are proud to share the impact we are making in the lives of our community through our Energy Assistance Program and The Market. In June, we served over 5,600 families and individuals, and provided over $212,000 in energy assistance. We could not do this work without your support.
