Arlene Krulish (BF'24) is working to end drug addiction in tribal communities. A member of Spirit Lake Nation, she saw firsthand the inadequacies of the health care system and its harmful effects on Indigenous communities. "I have a really strong belief that for a person to really beat addiction, they have to have a spiritual foundation," she recently told the Grand Forks Herald. The article was also picked up by Yahoo News. Read it here: https://yhoo.it/3WZEuPA As part of her Fellowship, Arlene plans to enroll in a nurse practitioner program with a psychiatric mental health specialization, which would make her the first nurse practitioner enrolled in the Spirit Lake Tribe. About us
The Bush Foundation invests in great ideas and the people who power them in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and the 23 Native nations that share the same geography. We work to inspire and support creative problem solving — within and across sectors — to make our region better for everyone. The Foundation was established in 1953 by 3M executive Archibald Bush and his wife, Edyth. Inspired by their desire to build their community and encourage innovation, the Foundation has made over one billion dollars in grants to thousands of organizations and individuals. http://www.bushfoundation.org/
