BLM manages one in every 10 acres of land in U.S. encompassing forests, mountains, rangelands, arctic tundra and deserts
About us
The BLM manages more land – 256 million surface acres – than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM’s multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, and cultural resources on the public lands. In 2021, join us in celebrating our 75th anniversary! Learn more: https://www.blm.gov/about/history/75th-anniversary. #ReImaginePublicLands #PublicLands75

"Sound is the vocabulary of nature." Pierre Schaeffer Ever heard of acoustic bird monitoring? It's using audio equipment to collect wildlife sound. This data can be used in animal behavior studies to monitor and inform species conservation and help conduct wildlife inventory. In Alaska, we're using this technology to better understand the migratory patterns of birds to help better inform decisions on public lands. 🐦 Check out our latest podcast to learn more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gHWJ6i4S. 🎧
