At this week's Brunswick City Commission Meeting, the Mayor and the entire City Commission had the pleasure of presenting a proclamation to Pastor Troy Moody, Ms. Emily Moody and Ms. Sandra Martin-Mungin in honor of Genoa Martin, a beloved community leader who served as Director of Seldon Park for 34 years. Genoa was also a radio host and music promoter, bringing acts like James Brown, Cab Calloway, Sam Cooke and Duke Ellington to Brunswick. Under his leadership, Seldon Park reenforced its purpose as a vessel that instilled culture, heritage, and education throughout Brunswick and Glynn County and this proclamation serves to encourage both residents and community leaders to visit Seldon Park and celebrate Genoa Martin's legacy through fellowship. Brunswick - we have WATER! The Orange Square Splash Pad will be open TOMORROW, Wednesday, June 19 at 7 AM. We apologize for the unexpected closure this weekend; while hiccups with new equipment are to be expected, we know it was disappointing and we invite everyone to head to Orange Square, 2216 Reynolds St. bright and early tomorrow morning to enjoy this incredible new addition to our city! The splash pad will return to its regular hours of operation starting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 19 at 7 AM and will be open 7 days a week, 7 AM to 7 PM. Sagrario Thomas

Mrs. Simmons contacted the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services because her house was in need of repairs. There was no flooring in the kitchen, living room or in one of her bathrooms. She applied for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program grant, the city staff conducted an assessment and hired a contractor to work on her house. The project was completed last month and Mrs. Simmons is extremely happy with the outcome. Today we had the absolute honor of attending the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce First Responders Appreciation Awards and Luncheon, where we were able to show in some small way how much we appreciate everything first responders do for our community. Firefighter Jordan Davis of the Brunswick Fire Department and Mario Herrera of the City of Brunswick Georgia Police Department were both recognized with awards today and we could not be prouder of the hard work they do to keep our friends and neighbors safe. The dedication and sacrifice of all first responders is commendable and we appreciate them! Sagrario Thomas
