How does a bouncy castle bring out the brilliance in a community? Here’s how: You don’t have to look hard to see that many people are longing for #community. As work and other areas of life become increasingly virtual, we need “third places”—schools, faith communities, social clubs—more than ever. That’s why Brilla hosts events like the Community Celebration in The Bronx. I love The Bronx. It’s my home. How can you tell a home is well-loved? People gather together to spend time in it! As a public charter school serving this special neighborhood, we want the broader community to share in the JOY we experience at Brilla every day. We want our students, their families, and our neighbors to feel cared for in ways that bestow dignity. We want them to know they’re part of a community worth celebrating. And celebrate we did! Hundreds turned out for this unforgettable event at two locations in the South Bronx and University Heights. With music, treats, face painting, games, and yes, bouncy castles, you could feel the joy as neighbors mingled, forming genuine connections. The day was a beautiful reminder of the role schools play in cultivating strong communities.
