About us

Students are at the core of Bottom Line. Every day, we are energized by their drive, potential, and passion. We know that the success of our students will create a ripple effect in our communities. Bottom Line is bridging the divide of educational inequity by providing a trusted advisor and the social capital necessary for our students to earn their bachelor’s degree, build financial stability, and successfully launch thriving careers. We primarily focus on students of color who will be in the first generation of their family to earn a college degree, are from low-income backgrounds, and are academically prepared for college. For more than two decades, Bottom Line has been fighting for educational equity by ensuring that the right to a quality college education is accessible to those whose potential and drive exceed their opportunity. For first-generation degree-aspiring students from low-income backgrounds who face systemic barriers, Bottom Line’s advisors are a relentless ally who partner with them to find the right college, persist to a degree, and successfully launch a career. As one of the first college support organizations to focus on college completion, Bottom Line now produces best-in-class college graduation rates that reduce the significant gap between first-generation students from low-income backgrounds and their wealthier peers. We operate regional programs in Massachusetts, New York City, and Chicago that collectively serve over 7,000 students.

    Lab Operations and Facilities Intern

I’m excited to share that I recently finished my internship in Lab Operations and Facilities at MOMA Therapeutics on August 23rd, 2024. It was an amazing experience, and I’m incredibly thankful to everyone who made it so special. A huge thank you to my manager, Gabriela Rodriguez Vasquez (Kerr) for her guidance and support, and to the fantastic team - Santos Palacios and Rian Falcon - for welcoming me and teaching me so much. Thank you to Project Onramp for connecting me with this opportunity! This internship taught me a lot about lab operations, improved my communication skills, and helped me become more independent. I also gained the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and grow in the biotech field and the professional world. Looking forward and excited for what’s next!

We’re hopeful the 2024-2025 FAFSA will work as intended, but no matter what, we're here to ensure high completion rates so students can secure their aid! In this Dayton Daily News article, our Ohio director of programs and operations, Alexandria Burns, discusses our optimism for an improved FAFSA experience this December. Career Connections Manager at Bottom Line

One of my favorite aspects of my job this time of year is catching up with students who have had summer internships. Today, I celebrate Bottom Line student Daniela Baez, a rising senior at BU, who spent her summer interning with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security through the Department of Corrections at Boston Pre-Release within the School of Re-Entry. I am so grateful to organizations and companies that offer our students such important and impactful career experiences.   From Daniela: "It has been an incredibly enlightening experience. I have gained valuable insights into the criminal justice system, particularly regarding incarceration and the process of rehabilitation for successful reentry into society. My experience has encompassed various aspects of this process, including classification, education, work-release, recreational and psychological programming, parole hearings, re-entry services, etc. I have observed firsthand how the School of Re-Entry supports individuals through comprehensive educational opportunities and aids in re-entry services, providing crucial resources for their successful reintegration. Engaging directly with the students has allowed me to witness their progress and commitment to their own transformation. Additionally, I have seen both the strengths and challenges within the system. When one area fails to meet its objectives, it can profoundly impact the incarcerated individuals and their rehabilitation journey. Working alongside the EOPSS staff has been a particularly valuable part of my experience, as their dedication and support have enriched my learning and deepened my understanding of the field. This experience has reinforced my long-held commitment to pursuing a career in this area. I am passionate about making a meaningful difference and supporting returning citizens in their journey toward successful reentry into society." Way to go, Daniela and thank you Executive Office of Public Safety and Security!

KKCF Alumni | First Tech Fund Alumni | Freshman at CUNY Bernard M. Baruch College

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Success Send-Off event provided by Bottom Line. They’re an organization that believes students need a guide and mentor throughout college to succeed in their future career, academic, and personal endeavors. I, as well as several other incoming freshmen, are a part of Bottom Line’s Success Program where we are provided with an advisor who offers holistic support for students. They help us assess our graduation credits, secure internships and full-time jobs, make smart financial decisions, and network with other students. The Success Send-Off was an event that celebrated our journey to a new chapter in our lives. It made us self-aware of the importance of planning for our academic and career development and earning our degree, despite the financial, career, academic, or personal obstacles we may face as undergraduates. I was grateful to meet with several of my peers attending New York University, Baruch College, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I truly am thankful for Bottom Line and the never-ending support they will provide!
