Pro Bono Month Highlight: Jennifer Goulah from Bodman PLC. Jennifer has served as an excellent partner in pro bono work this year. Her expertise in complex real estate transactions and persistence in quality representation contributed to nonprofit, Demographic Inspirations’ ability to resolve a complicated real estate purchase involving an international property speculator. Our nonprofit partners do their best work when they can focus on their programming, and our pro bono partners help our clients do exactly that.

This ruling reaffirms that property owned by religious societies must be predominately used for religious purposes to qualify for tax exemption. Bodman’s Erica Sarver and Nathan Dupes wrote an article explaining the Court’s ruling which makes clear that religious entities must ensure that the religious services provided at exempt properties are well documented.
