Helping children and teens get the mental health help they need is a key focus for us at #BCBSRI. One way we do this is supporting the Chris Collins Foundation and their Peer to Peer (P2P) program. This program empowers hundreds of local students to destigmatize mental health and support their classmates in schools across Rhode Island. Recently, our associates spent a day at P2P’s Mental Health Training Conference. Over the course of three days, more than 450 students and advisors from across the state learned ways to help their peers, communities, and families access care and feel supported. #BCBSRICommunity

About us
At Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI), we know that health is more than what happens at the doctor’s office. Our vision is to improve health and well-being by leading access to high-quality, affordable, and equitable care. That means focusing on innovation, from opening retail stores across the state to expanding access to behavioral health services to helping address food insecurity among our neighbors. BCBSRI is connected nationwide as an organization of 36 independent Blues plans, working locally and together to transform care from the ground up and serve members wherever they are. Whether you're an individual looking to join our team or an employer looking to protect your employees' health, let's work together to make a difference. BCBSRI is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.

We were so excited to see a local, multigenerational family receive the keys to their brand-new house and achieve their dream of home ownership! Two years ago, #BCBSRI decided to sponsor and help build this house in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Providence and East Bay and the City of Providence. We’re proud to invest in community organizations like #HabitatPVD that are helping improve access to housing that everyone can afford—and just as proud to roll up our sleeves and help build a home! Over the last two years, more than 200 of our BlueAngel volunteers spent 1,200+ hours working on the house. In addition, our Caregiver Connection employee group created a “wish list” of items for the family’s kitchen, bathroom, and garden. There was so much enthusiasm that our associates purchased every item on the list! At BCBSRI, we know that housing is the foundation of health, and we’re working to help our neighbors live their best, healthiest lives.

Our Black Council @ Blue employee business resource group is all about promoting teamwork in the workplace and supporting our community through service. Together, they recently crafted handmade birthday cards for clients of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island. We hope these cards bring joy to their recipients.

Many of our departments here at #BCBSRI have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming Medicare annual enrollment period. So last week, our Rising Talent @ Blue employee group invited some company leaders to speak with associates about the efforts that their teams lead, and how their career journeys have brought them to their current role. Thank you to Amy Blustein, Rebecca Mallette, Jason Furlan, Jessica Marfeo, MBA, Laura Hall, and Teresa Isom for joining us! You make #LifeAtBCBSRI one where we can all learn and grow together.

Congratulations to our Chief Compliance Officer Sonia Worrell Asare, JD, MBA, MA, CHC for being honored at the 9th annual 100 Women of Color Awards! This award is presented to female leaders across many industries, including healthcare, arts, government, and community service. Since joining #BCBSRI in 2022, Sonia has been instrumental in our ethics, compliance, and #DEIB efforts. In her role, she has fostered shared professional values—including collaboration, accountability, integrity, and respect—across our organization. As executive sponsor of our Black Council @ Blue employee resource group, she has led volunteer events and panel discussions for her colleagues. She is passionate about mentorship, volunteerism, philanthropy, justice, and civic engagement and has held a variety of appointments that have allowed her to advocate for these principles. Please join us in celebrating Sonia’s recognition! #BCBSRICommunity #100WomenOfColor

Home is where the heart is. Our home can also impact our ability to get—and stay—healthy. That’s why we’re committed to helping more Rhode Islanders achieve home ownership and have a safe, affordable place to live. Next week, we’ll hand over the keys of a brand-new Habitat for Humanity of Greater Providence and East Bay home to a local, multi-generational family. We can’t wait. See how we got here.

Last but not least, meet The Elisha Project, Special Olympics Rhode Island, and The Village Common of Rhode Island. We all share a common goal—to make life better for our neighbors. And during #BlueAcrossRI2024, BCBSRI volunteers came together to lend a hand and support their missions. See how it went. ⬇️📸
