Thousands of U.S. dockworkers from Maine to Texas began a historic strike on October 1, impacting 36 ports and 45,000 workers. The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) is protesting against automation and seeking better wages, accusing shipping companies of profiting at workers' expense. There are concerns that the strike could lead to higher consumer costs and shortages if an agreement isn't reached soon. https://lnkd.in/gGXh-fdx

When democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz revealed his son witnessed a shooting, republican VP nominee JD Vance expressed surprise and sympathy. Both men expressed their disdain—and respective solutions—for addressing gun violence in schools. Vance argued for stronger doors, windows and more resource officers in school, plus a bi-partisan solution. Walz suggested more gun violence research into other countries like Finland— where he said school shootings do not happen—enhance red flag laws and background checks while also preserving second amendment rights.
