About us
Bikur Cholim is dedicated to serving all members of the Jewish Community by providing assistance to improve health and well-being. We strive to help young and old, from within Cleveland and beyond, by offering comfort, shelter and support through a variety of services. We accomplish this through the coordinated efforts of dedicated volunteers who selflessly perform the mitzvah of bikur cholim – literally visiting the sick – with all the nuances of care and concern which this concept embraces. Bikur Cholim sees its duty to stand with individuals and their families during times of medical crisis in accordance to Jewish tradition, as are the practices of the organization.

Volunteer Spotlight: Clifford (Chaim) Wolf “We don't like people to have to be in need. I've been there too. It's not a comfortable feeling. What is a comfortable feeling is that when you're in need, you have people who are very willing to give. Bikur Cholim is the organization that provides all of this. There are not many organizations that are as full of humanity, as full of wanting to help, and as full of love for their fellow man.” Why Clifford volunteers? *I love all people, especially the Jewish people. *Bikur Cholim is an organization that is so genuine. *We're all in need of performing mitzvot. *Everyone is so appreciative of what you do. *I am able to comfort people who are in distress, who are ill, and who perhaps cannot do for themselves. *In return, I am comforted by bringing the heartfelt warmth of food, delivering medical equipment or providing a ride to people in need. *Without Bikur Cholim, we’d be less of a community. Clifford Wolf has volunteered with the Barbara Gross Volunteer Program for 6+ years. Every Friday, he picks up packaged Shabbos meals for patients and families at Young Israel of Greater Cleveland and delivers them to the Bikur Cholim office. “I look forward to it every week,” states Clifford. “What could be more of an acknowledgement of how wonderful an organization Bikur Cholim is.” Sign up to become a Barbara Gross volunteer @ https://lnkd.in/eDPmKi5Z

Our 48-hour crowdfunding campaign was a huge success. Together, we raised more than $520,000 towards our $2.2 million annual operating budget from 81 teams and 1,872 individual donors. Our donor pool represented 18 states throughout the U.S. and 5 countries, including Israel, England and even China! We are so grateful for the many unsung heroes that stepped up to help us: -A doctor from Cleveland Clinic who put great effort into reaching out to his physician colleagues. -A patient waiting to receive a transplant, who despite her circumstances, solicited her friends. -Many, many grateful Bikur Cholim recipients from Cleveland and across the globe who wanted to pay it forward. -Bikur Cholim board members, staff and volunteers. YOU are the reason we can be on call for thousands of Jewish patients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. With these funds, we can continue to help patients secure urgently needed doctors’ appointments, provide food and other necessities to hospitalized patients, coordinate rides, assist with medical transfers and so much more. Wishing all our donors, patients and volunteers a wonderful Yom Tov! If you wish to donate to our bonus round, visit: https://lnkd.in/ejvXiM4B
